I have to add that Cait loves her grenades...

I never noticed that with Cait but she did like using rockets a lot. I had to take her rocket launcher away from her for her own good. She was using it in close quarters combat and blowing herself up all of the time. It's good thing she never found a Fat Man. I got tired of using all of my Stimpacks on her. Silly girl! Curie likes to melee combat for some reason. I even gave her a nice shotgun but she'd rather try slashing them to death with a combat knife.

doesn't even matter if she's carrying molotoves, she will throw them first before she even fires her gun. Then she pulls out whatever you have given her as a weapon. I haven't tried mines yet. I wonder....

Who's that scrawny looking guy that likes sniper rifles? Can't remember who he is. I'm thinking about using that guy in replace of Cait. At least he might do things more subtle...
Give that guy a long ranged, silenced, sniper rifle...? Oh my....

IDK, but I had a companion I gave a silenced .50 cal Sniper rifle to and they used it for everything even if the enemy was 5 feet away. These companions are so dumb I even have to dress them up for combat. I look at their inventory and they're carrying Legendary Armor and don't know enough to wear it. Instead of scrapping my weapons I am handing them out to the Settlers and Provisioners just so they can have a fighting chance. Most of these idiots are wandering around with a Pipe Pistol with a damage of 11 or 16. LOL

MacReady and Deacon both like sniper rifles.

And yeah, they left the AI pretty stupid this time around.  Im used to Bethesda built followers to actually put on and wear a superior clothing or armor when you give it to them.   As for grenades?  No way.  I don't let any of them have grenades.  Last time on of them got ahol of some molotovs they were doing more damage to us than the enemy we were fighting.   If I didn't need them as mules so often I would leave all of them at home.

I think survival mode should do something with the companions. On the normal mode, I just send whoever I am with into the fight and let them distract everyone till they are sitting there. Knowing they can't die is almost an exploit. It should have them die during a fight and then re-spawn at Sanctuary or something.

That perk... "lone survivor"? Is that it? Next few levels I'll put into that so I don't need a companion.

Or do what Skyrim did with most of them.  Permadeath for that playthrough.

Personally I don't mind the companions being set as essential.  I end up "killing" them myself half the time because the idiots run right into your line of fire.    But. like you said though, they make good distractions.   Im hoping that once the creation kit is released, someone can do something about their AI.

Lone Wanderer actually.  It gives you bonuses for being solo.  And believe it or not, I've never taken it.   And if I recall correctly, Dogmeat doesn't count against you while using that perk since the game doesn't consider him a companion.

I outfitted A.D.A. with lasers in her head and hands but in combat she's really useless for the most part. She constantly comes unglued at the site of a Radstag and goes running off trying to kill it. I take them down with a single shot while she has to chase it around. I think I am better off with Cait in combat.
