I was wondering the same thing. I think I read somewhere that the same is true with the magazines; Once you have them, you gain that perk and you can put them wherever. One thing I wish was that there was a footlocker or box that acted the same as resources in the workshops. Where I can store say, a mini-gun in a box at Red Rocket and have access to it in Sanctuary or at any other settlement. It wouldn't be very realistic but neither is being able to carry around 112 cannon balls and a dozen other guns like I am now.

If you store the mini-gun in the workshop bench and all of your settlements are joined by a trade route than you should be able to have access to it in all your joined settlements.

112 cannonballs? WOW. LOL

I've noticed now that when I crouch in sneak mode, I go invisible like the stealth boy.

It kinda goes in and out of the stealth mode?  Is this a glitch?  I've never noticed this before and it just started doing it.

I've only got 1 perk for stealth which only says I'm 30% harder to detect.

Have you tried verifying your cache? Also, are you wearing any type of armor that will give you stealth mode?

What is verifying cache?
I'll have to check my armor, that could be it.

In Steam, go to your game library, select Fall Out 4, Then Right click on Fall Out 4, new window will appear, then scroll down to Properties, Left click on Properties, new window will appear, look in the new window for Local Files at the top of that window, Click on Local Files, scroll down the list to VERIFY Integrity. click on that and the rest will continue from there.

Thanks whiskers54.  As soon as I posted that I realized what it was, I had to do this once with the Witcher 3.

I do have a couple chameleon armor pieces so that could be it, I'm going to verify tonight.  On a side note I just picked up Cait...now I see what everyone was talking about!  Only problem is I've stacked my lone wanderer perk and am so used to being able to carry a ton of weight, I think my baseline is like 445.
Now if I travel with a companion it cuts that in half so I gotta figure out what to store.
What happens if I store my weapons mods?  Does that take away from my guns I've created?  I know that's kind of a stupid question but I have a boatload of weapons mods that I need to figure out what to dump.

I store my weapons mods in the workbench. That way I have access to them at all my joined settlements.

I should start modding my extra weapons that I take off of the corpses or find on the ground back to their basic configuration before I scrap them. I wish I had thought of that sooner. I can always make more mods. After I finished the Silver Shadow quest I parted ways with Hancock. IDK if I reached max affinity with him or not. I don't even know what the perk he gives you is or how to check and see if I have it. I am travelling with Preston Scurvey now. I even gave him a brand new set of X-01 Mod III Power Armor we found stashed in the Fort Hagen Raider lair. I noticed I only have 4 missions to complete and I am not getting any more from any of the factions. They must be mad at me or something. I ran across Tom fighting the Synth Tom for the third time. Synth Tom killed the real Tom before I got there so I killed the other Tom who was running away. I shot him in the back, my bad, and discovered he had a Synth component. I need to find some new missions or quests before Armegeddon starts. All I have to do is beam into The Institute and kill someone to get that started but I'm not ready yet. There must be something I'm missing.

omg.... I just got into the biggest gun fight of all time on Fallout 4. Can't remember where it was at, somewhere outside of Diamond city, probably about 2 cities over... It involved about 15 regular NPCs, and about 5 legendries. I had to constantly dodge them and dodge the gun fire, and then they got me stuck in a little shop where 3-4 were charging me with their melee, using machetes, pole sticks, and bats. Meanwhile, the guys on the roofs were throwing their grenades and Molotovs while I was trying to dodge the guys attacking me. I had to constantly use Buffout, mentats, jet, med-x, psycho, and stims to keep up. My companion wasn't in any better shape than I was. He had an NPC in power armor to worry about with 3 other guys just machine gunning him down. It was so bazaar, flipping between my bolt action, shotgun and grenades, it seemed like they just kept coming. It got overwhelming though, and saw I only had less than 1/8 of a health left. I knew it was coming to the end, though, as the last opponent I was attacking was firing back at me on the street (While being a Legendary NPC...just my luck, as I had little health left), but alas, I finally went down. So many drops and so many unique items were to be found.
Loudest gunfight I have been in. Survival is the way to go.

But you would also lose caps in the process by changing them back to a standard weapon.

I still have to do the Silver Shadow Quest. I have the quest items already. I need to clean up my inventory.

I did the Castle quest and now I wish I didn't. Now I do not get any quests from Preston.

I wonder what would happen if you launched a few missiles into the BOS blimp from the ground. That would probably create a wanted dead poster. LOL

What is your current level?

I may do the survival mode later.

What is the weight of bullets?

At that level you are getting bounced around pretty good. I figured you would fair better than that in survival mode.

After the beta for survival is released as a patch there will be weight on bullets. That would kill me.

Why would I lose caps? I'm only taking my guns apart and then scapping them for materials. The BOS has those Vertibirds too. If you nailed their Prydwen with a missile you would have a chance to see a lot of them at the same time.
