4 questions about my EVGA gpu (980ti)
  1. do the fans run when precision X is closed?
  2. if they run, why is it - that when i launch precision X even when idling just on word/chrome itll be like 65-70 degrees, fans will go and itll be at 40 degrees in 30 secs?
  3. i heard that fans only trigger when your gpu gets above like 70-75 degrees or something, is that true?
  4. should i always have precision X open when im playing games? ususally i dont have it open - slaughtering gta v on ultra with fans not going at all.... i dont know if this is bad for the gpu, because i am sure the card will be running pretty hot

1. Yes, fans should spin even when precision x is closed. ACX cards don't run the fans when the card is under 60c.
2. Sounds like your card has a problem. Precision is most likely running on automatic fan mode/custom fan curve settings when you open it causing your fans to come on.
3. False. Fans should come on at 60c with acx cards. Blower style cards should have the fan running 24/7.
4. Yes, you should have precision x open when playing games if your gpu fans aren't turning on above 60c.

here are the images of my Precision X.... hope this helps

Hi guys, I'm a first time EVGA GTX 980Ti Hybrid user. I've never overclocked Maxwell cards before so I did a lot of reading and research.

So far I've managed to get 1470Mhz stable boost clock. What worries me now is that my card can hit 1500Mhz but GPUz is showing a power limit hit and downclocks to 1470-1480Mhz. This is such a shame as the ASIC rating is 80% and I'm certain it can go higher. I'd love to try and get a stable 1500Mhz for 24/7 but It seems that I have to raise the power limit. The only way to do this is by tweaking the BIOS.

I did some research and am fairly confident that I can pull this off but before risking a bricked or a fried card I would like to know:

-Can raising the power limit damage the card or the VRM (without overvolting the card above default max)?

-When a power limit is raised, does this break or change the low power states of the card. From what I've seen in bios the power limits are also defined for low gpu usage. If I raise the TDP from 275W to 350W, the below 10% power draw will no longer be the same value. Is this calculated from the TDP? Do I have to change those values as well?

-For a single BIOS card is there a way to reflash the old bios (backup) if for some reason the flash fails (I do have an integrated GPU)?

Thank you very much in advance everyone :)
