I've been driving myself nuts knowing that the SM951 is available to OEMS but not yet sold on the "public" market for consumers. So I set out to find all of the different OEMs and Samsung Retailers in the USA and found one called AVnet. They currently don't have the drive in stock ONLY because they don't make a habit of carrying OEM items in regular quantities, as OEMs tend to purchase those in bulk, or pre-ordered sets for products made to a certain quote. So the link on the website says "16 week factory lead time" but that is only an estimated time limit for production, which obviously varies depending on the order size and priority. I called the sales representatives on the phone and they confirmed to me that I CAN IN FACT order it, and that Samsung would manufacture it, and then AVnet would ship it to my house! :D

These guys are out of Utah and seem to be a really great company. Here is the link, and here are all of the prices:

So if you don't want to settle for "LAST GEN" XP941  the SM951 is within your grasp! If you do order one, let us all know how it goes, and keep us posted on delivery and possible benchmarks! I'll try to purchase mine around Christmas. Good luck!

I emailed RamCity (I think they were one of the first to stock the XP941) and they're expecting stock of the SM951 in Q2 2015. Which is about 16 weeks from now :p

I ordered through AvNet, but they quoted me the 14-16weeks, so I'm going to cancel.

Good news, you can find them on eBay where an early adopter is pulling them out of OEM laptops and selling for a reasonable price ()

Looking closely, the date on the device looks like a Sept-2014 run.  Wish stores like NewEgg would grab a few.

I ordered the xp941 from Ram City in Australia. While trying to register it, I couldn't find the drive on Samsungs website. For RMA procedures, I have to go through Ram city, because Samsung isn't selling them. Beware that if they are taking them out of laptops and reselling them, you may not get a warranty, so verify that and purchase at your own risk. Also, I wonder what legal issues there will be when a buyer gets a laptop and the drive isn't correct... I wouldn't be someone if sues the company here very soon.

I canceled the order with AvNet, who said it was another 13 weeks out.

And, I purchased the one off eBay (search Samsung SM951) and you'll find the guy selling them.  You're right, there is no warranty and you'll just get the drive in a bubble envelope, so you have to know what you're doing.

That said, installed yesterday and works perfectly as my new boot drive!  Just had to enable UEFI in the Bios for the boot drives (under CMS for Asus bios).

Curse you! With those kinds of numbers I think I'll just ignore my wallet's complaining and pick one up

BTW, what board do you have?

I wanted to have more information for samsung sm951 can be installed on Windows7 64bit or only on Windows 8.1?
I say this because 8.1 has native support NvMe while Windows 7 no, but there are drivers for this NvMe ssd?

Is this available to the public? can't find this SSD anywhere. I actually kind of wish they would name their M.2 drives like their SD cards and SSD's, such as 8X0 EVO or 8x0 PRO
