That sucks, i was able to grab 1 hydro copper block (no card) today and thats it

I've been hearing about the hydro copper block being overpriced versus other EK blocks for the 980. Is there more to it than just having EVGA logo on it?

I lost interest after the price tag...I have owed ( and still own) the last few classified models and thought they were fine but never really compared it to anything else. Ever since the 9800gtx I've been rolling with EVGA, however, with the price stunt followed by the availability issues I just went to get 2 sli gigabyte g1's. Had they had it in stock on release I would have made the impulse decision to buy this item which is very underwhelming in my opinion.  This has allowed me fall in love with another brand and stay loyal to them until something happens. I was not really in a rush considering I only have my hands on 1 Rog Swift and I'm waiting to get the next 2 when stock replenishes.

Same happened to me on the first day. When you put item in the cart if was in stock, by the time you finished your checkout it was out. You can tell it by looking at the Quantity box, notice it says "Choose.. quantity" that means whatever number you put in there was nullified.

No idea. I didn't get an alert email or anything this time. I was refreshing the page for the past hour and it became available at 5:30, order completed at 5:31:52 and they were gone at 5:33.

That's the way it was for me, too.  No email notification.  I was just sitting there hitting f5 every 10 seconds or so.  Then there was that nice green button saying "add to cart".  So I did.  Had my CC sitting right in front of me.  Made sure that my shipping address and billing address were all correct in EVGA's website.  Entered the CC number, exp date, and security code.  Went to the next page.  Then ... ERROR.  It didn't go through.  The bank thought it was fraud and put a stop on the payment.  Right about that time my phone rings, and it's the bank.  I was livid, to say the least.  I won't tell you what I told/called them.  It would be edited right off this page.  I don't think I have ever been so infuriated in all my life.  And of course, you're not talking to someone from the United States.  No, it's someone from Sri Lanka, or somewhere, that speaks broken English.  I'm just disgusted with all of this right now.

Is it always this bad on release?

Yes, but the 680s were by far the worst so far, it was like this for months.

I don't recall the 680s being this bad.  I went in and got two 680 Classifieds with no trouble from Amazon.  But then ... maybe I was late to the party.  This was around August of 2012.

If your whole build is less than this card then I would personally plan on a new setup entirely in the future because just popping this card in your system wont allow for the greatest potential.

But thats just what I would do. Upgrade your other core parts first, especially if you are thinking of watercooling/overclocking

This is good advice. Yes, I am in the process of building a new rig from scratch. This current cookie cutter build is showing age pretty badly and i've only had it for 2 years. (Got it to be able to play diablo 3 lol)

But please inform me if a 980 classified is just absurd overkill for gaming/streaming/video editing at 1080-1440p. Currently I am only looking for a single GPU with the potential to SLI later.

It's without a doubt, overkill. A reference 980 will be much cheaper and suitable for your needs if not another card all together. The classified, in my opinion, is the kind of card you shouldn't get if you ask if you should get it.

The classified branded cards will only allow for greater overclocking over the reference cards, at a greater cost.

More later today but again will be limited for now...

Any expectation of a version (Ti or KP) with a voltage dongle connector?
