Hey guys

This is my first post. I bought one GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified 3GB PCI-E w/ ACX Cooler, Dual DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort in March and I did not even opened the box yet. I'm building a gaming rig with the Formula VI from Asus.

How good is this card(gtx 780 class versus other 780)? I bought also a 4K TV and I was wondering witch gpu to use with this 4K TV..... I found one comparaison on the net between the 7970 and the 680. But they are not has good as a 780 rigth?

Should I register the step-up program? Mine is still plastic wrapped but normaly do you send your old gpu, pay the difference and that's it ?

Thanks

I have two GeForce GTX 780 Dual Classified 3GB that I bought in the beginning of March.

I was wondering if there will be a step-up for these cards to a 6GB 780 ACX version for Canada, within my 90 day window? I already signed up for the normal 780 6GB card announcement at

I saw the release here about a 780 ACX card:

Needing more VRAM for my modded Skyrim@2560x1600, it's pinning my 3GB easily and the swaps are jarring. Titan (Blacks) are way overpriced for the extra 3GB I'm getting with this new card.

No, EVGA is only allowing a step-up to the reference 780 6GB. No SC, FTW, Kingpin or otherwise.

If your card is still brand new and unopened you should just see if you can return it and then just buy the 6GB card when it is released and not have to wait in the queue. From what I have been reading the 780 6GB alone does not have the power to drive the full 6GB so you would need to SLI and be running at very high res to make the 6GB worthwhile.

Ugh. Didn't see that the links were stripped out of my post.

I'll put the text from the article here (emphasis mine):

EVGA announces GeForce GTX 780 6GB models
Published on 24th March 2014 by Gareth Halfacree
EVGA's new GTX 780 models, one with stock cooler and one with dual-fan ACX cooler, both come with a boost to 6GB of GDDR5 memory.

The company has confirmed plans to launch a pair of GeForce GTX 780 6GB models, starting with a version feature Nvidia's stock cooler design. As with the existing models, the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB SC includes a Kepler GPU with 2,304 CUDA cores, a base clock of 941MHz rising to 993MHz under boost conditions, and a 384-bit memory bus. Where it differs from the usual models is in its use of 6GB of GDDR5 memory, in place of the usual 3GB.

The stock cooler edition is to be joined by a premium version offering EVGA's customised ACX dual-fan cooler. Switching the cooler out, the company has claimed, allows for a factor overclock that sees the base clock of the card rise to 967MHz and the boost clock to break the gigahertz barrier at 1,020MHz. The rest of the card's specifications, including the boost to 6GB, remain the same.

Both models will be covered under EVGA's Step-Up programme, which allows anyone who has bought an EVGA-branded graphics card in the 90 days prior to the launch of the new boards to upgrade to the new model. Those taking the company up on the offer will, naturally, be asked to pay the difference in cost between their existing board and the new 6GB models.

Official UK pricing for the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC and GeForce GTX 780 ACX have not yet been confirmed, with EVGA offering a recommended retail price for the former of $549.99 (around £334 excluding taxes) in the US as a guideline.

Can someone confirm this or is this not going to be available for US and Canada?

I have not heard any news from EVGA about this so until they say otherwise I will assume normal Step-Up terms apply. Aside from what they have already mentioned in this thread.

I am sure a lot of people would like to know this as no-one would want to "upgrade" from a 780 classy to a stock 6GB card.

Yes, definitely agree. I was just wondering if the article author was just misreading the release in that the new 6GB cards would qualify as a step up card base to an upgraded card series, rather than the ACX version being a card people can step up to.

Given the information out there right now, I hope that I can step up my 780DC 3GB to a stock 780ti 6GB within my 90 day window.

Just to clarify, can I upgrade from the GTX 780 classified to the 780ti with this step up?  And would that be a worthy upgrade, I mean would performance be noticeably different?  I don't mind paying the price difference if it is indeed possible.  Will be running either 1440P and/or a combo of 3 monitors.
Thanks!

I accidentally locked in as 780, when I in fact have a 780ti. Will there be a chance to lock in for the 780 ti 6gb?

This particular Step-Up is only for the 780 6GB. The announcement for the Ti, if it indeed happens, will be at a later time.
