My GTX 670 has BIOS version 80.04.31.00.70

Do I need this update?

Don't mess with it unless you have problems. That goes with pretty much any BIOS. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Don't risk installing this firmware update. After installing this firmware update my GTX 670 reaches about 60'C and causes a complete hard lock system crash...I will likely have to return the card.

In an update to my subvendor query, I have a sneaky suspicion that because one of my original 'EVGA' 670s is listed with nvidia as the subvendor it will not apply this firmware update to it. Which is lucky really, otherwise I would have 2 junked cards. The nvidia subvendor card remains on 80.04.19.00.70, the newer actual evga subvendor card was flashed to 80.04.31.00.70 which is the one that now causes crashes (previously it worked fine).

Hmm, the 670 FTW I got about 3 weeks ago already has newest BIOS, so im good. I wonder how you can make the fan go above 80% though...

There have been several threads on it. It is out of spec with nvidia's guidelines, so none of the manufacturers can mod their BIOSes to allow the fan to go over 80%.

I have a GTX 670 FTW and my BIOS Version is 80.04.4B.00.70

1) Do I need to update?

2) Everything works fine besides BF3, I keep getting "Battlefield has stopped working" message whenever I try to play but Skyrim, D3 works I haven't gotten any RSoD, screen flashes or anything. So.... yeah

My 1st 670 FTW I flashed the latest update right off with no testing.  The 2nd 670 I got I decided to test a bit before flashing to latest revision.  After running a few loops of Heaven and some runs of 3DMark with varying clock and power target settings, I found no differences between 80.04.4B.00.70 and 80.04.31.00.72 as far as my "out of the box" max boost clock or any benching scores.  So from my experiences and testing with these cards, I saw no noticable differences one way or the other between the two mentioned firmware (bios) revisions.

Well this just SUCKS.. I was hoping to purchase my 3rd 670 FTW soon. Nothing feels better than 3waySLI on a monster machine. (except 4way, but thats a little extreme for me) But theres no way I'm taking a chance on this crazy new firmware when it could start messing up my computer, and throwing crashes since I haven't flashed the first 2 yet.

I  haven't had one single issue with these FTW's... I'll wait until EVGA figures this out. I know they will cuz they're awesome. But I do wonder why they continue to issue this firmware update, when they can obviously see that its causing a problem??

Where are you getting that these are causing problems? Most people (in this thread even) can attest to the fact that updating their firmware didn't really do anything. I updated my first 670 FTW to this firmware and had no problems, and my second 670 came with this firmware preinstalled. No problems with either of them.

Just this thread, mainly. Those screen artifacts on pages one and 2 are terrifying. I know they're not causing problems for everyone, but it seems like out of the people here who have posted, the chances are pretty high that something is going to either RSOD, BSOD, or black screen, if not throw artifacts. I found sound pretty disappointing reviews of the cards new firmware on NewEgg reviews too. I don't speak for everyone, and I certainly don't think they're a catastrophe...

But there is OBVIOUSLY something not quuiiiiite right here :S Just my opinion.
