Does using 1.0mm pads hurt? I bought some really quality stuff, some of the best thermal pads on the market. But not really noticing a difference. Might buy some .5mm and swap out the 1mm and see if its any better

Yes. You need to use the correct thickness pads. Thicker pads will prevent the cooler stand-offs from seating correctly to the PCB and could cause physical damage to the PCB and components soldered to it. The thermal pads will compress a little but not enough to squish down to the proper thickness needed. Using thicker than recommended pads can also cause the cooler to not make good proper contact with the GPU die causing elevated temps on the GPU.

get thermalpads from ebay instead  (blue or green OEM)  100mm X 100mm  for a dollar or so, and save a fortune

Dont buy from shops like frozencpu

Which thickness have the pads for the gtx 1080 thermal mod? I will get an evga gtx 1080 ftw for xmas. Just want to buy some pads to be ready for mod on xmas. Cause evga needs the serial no. for sending the pads, which I dont have before xmas.

Hi,

I am sorry for any confusion as the cards with 1MM thickness on the thermal pads are prior to the 10 series line of EVGA graphics cards.  I can confirm that the thickness of the thermal pads may change from model to model and due to this we do recommend requesting a free thermal pad mod from http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/.
