Kind of strange. I noticed this oily residue around the edge of my card. So I decided to start disassembling to see why. The thermal pad on the back of the back plate is the cause. It soaked the area around the bottom side of the PCB/GPU. The pics are not the greatest, but here they are after I wiped much of it away. The sticker on the PCB is soaked, again sorry for the poor pics but it's the best I could muster up. No problems with the card, but it did concern me. Anyone else see this??

I think that's normal. I had the backplate on my gtx 260 and im planning to buy a backplate if i buy either gtx 570 or gtx 580.
The backplate of the gtx 260 had a separate thermal pad and i was able to remove it from both the card and the backplate. when i was cleaning mine had also that oily stuff and i im still not sure what is it.

Yes, I've been reading through the forums and it looks as though others have mentioned. I'm not losing any sleep over it, but admittedly it had me a little concerned at first.

I remember Jacob saying it is normal for this to happen, it won't negatively affect your card, and it won't void your warranty.

Just wanted to reassure you that the oily residue or wetness is completely normal. I had some GTX285's that leaked and I was like "Oh No" and asked Jacob about the issue and he said it was a normal thing and to not be concerned in any way. Just wanted to let you know :)

It will sure void your warranty if that oil causes the sticker to fall off...

I asked that question as well when I spoke to Jacob. It will not void your warranty. Just be sure to hold onto the sticker so if you have to do an RMA in the future that will be required. If you ever do have to do an RMA just include the sticker with a note explaining what happened and you will be good to go
