Post #1 Adventures of Z7101 SLI 4-way or Snakebit City: Well, I try for a machine that'll last me a decade, and leave me with parts for the next. My GByte i7 Gen-1 will become (w/new vidcard) the A/V hub if my "all EVGA box" ever gets going: Problems so far: Now my FIRST home computer, well, I'll let you get it from my 'birthday' shows you how long I've been building, rebuilding - fine hardhacks and necessary kluges. Problem #1 w/Z-1701 - it was going to go into a Lian Li box built for E-ATX's when
Pentium-4s were the hottest thing going (literally), but LL never managed to be quite on spec, and when I discovered LL has also gone Yuppie$, went to Thermaltake Urban T-81 - DON'T unless you plan a phase-change sub-box or are just showing what a good case pimp you are. Combined with the horrible 90-degree 3/3.1 internal connectors w/ultra-flex housings(compared to no-name add-on replacements) you cannot plug in the lines w/o mashing what shoulda been stick-up 20-pin sets into trash that has to be cut off the board.EVGA also failed me by failing to write a 256-pp manual, minimum for a mobo, and supplying the single 40-language-10 pp in each man on "all vidboards" instead of the 970subWhatever I ended up with. Packing to move while building sys always bad, and I lost the Z-1701 disk - after a week, they've promised me a zip of the original - still waiting. (btw) FS LL perfect blk ATX box and a PC Power&Cooling 450-watt PS built when PCP&S was PCP&S. Had to buy a new Uni.Comp kbd because round-to-USB adapters didn't work with combination.(Uni.Comps are duplicates or modded for modern sys versions of IBM keyboards when IBM made keyboards - YOU OWE YOURSELF ONE OR THREE! Anyway, anybody out there w/drivers &gradual speed-booster softs for Z-1701 bd, PLEASE send privately, w/advice. Meanwhile it's back to the try-to-build-a 7-Seagate HS drives+, Win7.1+hypervisor'ed Linux/ Digital Equipment PDP(s)-1/4/5/6/7/8/10 simulators machine dedicated to the art of 2-D/3-D graphix and cellular autonitma.Ya gamers out there, have fun - I'll never knock you, you and I just aren't on the same page though, dmr from WTP* Associates (When it's WTP*, "*TP"BU!)
