Sorry if this has been answered, but I couldn't find a solution in the forums/google.

Ok, I bought a new laptop and upgraded from win8 to win7. When it came to downloading the GPU drivers, before the program could even get started installing, it said "cannot install driver need intel(r) drivers first"

Fine, so I download intels integrated graphics drivers, and then successfully install the nvidia drivers for my 840m.

Problem is, under device manager, when my integrated intel graphics are enabled, my 840m drivers throws the most ambiguous error code known to man (code 43 "something's not working right". Thanks Windows) and automatically disables the hardware.

If I disable the integrated drivers and disable/enable the 840m drivers it says it's working fine, but I have my doubts that it's actually utilizing the 840m drivers.

I downloaded GPU-Z, and it can detect that I have an 840M, and it detects the drivers, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of 'clarity' on my screen, for a lack of a better word. I would think it would be a sharper image is what I mean, and i'm just not getting that.

Can anybody help?

Intel HD 4600? Right click and uninstall if you don't have that GPU on there.

The laptop manufacturer has to provide the software to allow switchable graphics. If you moved to a OS that isn't intended for that laptop, you are out of luck. To get your graphics card back on, you will need to switch back to Windows 8.

    >uninstall intel hd 4600
last time i did that, my laptop wouldn't allow me to install 840m drivers at all. gave me an error message "must install intel drivers first"
    >the laptop manufacturer has to provide gpu software
that doesn't make sense? nvidia 840m is nvidia 840m, the laptop manufacturer should have **** all to do with the drivers

Nvidia provides the basic drivers. The manufacturer has to provide the drivers that are able to switch them back and forth to allow optimus to work.

son of a ****. yeah i tried everything i could think of to get win7 to work, but i eventually had to go back to win8, because it seems optimus links integrated graphics and dedicated graphics, and win7 doesn't support that tech on this laptop. lamesville, USA if you ask me, cause i HATE using win8, not for any functionality reasons (well some of that too, apps is retarded) but because i'm so used to win7, and it's such an amazing, reliable OS.

whatever, i installed some programs that makes it feel more like win7 anyway
