Ok ,this is for the O.P. The fault does NOT lay with the tool, OR the fastener, but with the person who chose to use the improper tool for the job to be done. This could be you the end user, OR the factory worker whom assembled the card with an improper , worn or miscalibrated tool. I didn't mean this post to sound offensive, just wanted to point out what you seem to be missing. S**t happens...

YerBuddy Frakly, it makes no difference if it was a bosch screw driver or a toothpick. The problem is that one of the screws was not removed correctly. However, the retailer fixed it for you and then sent the card back to you. Is your argument that the card is not working? From what I've read no. You got what you paid for and then some. Nobody held a gun to your head to purchase the card nor take it apart to put the backplate on or whatever it was you were doing. If the card is broke then RMA it. If it's not broken and you can use it then stop complaining and move on to more important things like using it. I have one suggestion however. After reading this thread and the other one that got locked then I don't recommend you try to overclock it (or anything for that matter) because you are just setting yourself up for another failure. you know at first i was thinking the same way and posted about tools.now that i have sat back and took a deep breath i think i owe the OP a apology.he is not crying about his card he is just wanting to know how many others have had the problem of getting screws out of thier video cards.lets all take a deep breath and think before we reply,i did not at first.

i have a evga 260ssc that i wanted to replace the fan and tim on but a couple of screws are so tight i quit trying to turn them out because i was afraid i would strip the screws.but also realize i have worked on guns where a stripped screw could cost you hundreds of dollars on the sale price so i use a lot of caution.the OP probably has not worked with precision and hand tools all the time.and also the poster that says he makes the tools do you use a microminter on every tool your company makes or is it the computer cnc machine cant be wrong its run by a computer type of deal,im not a tool and die maker or a tool maker, but we all know nothing is perfect always.sorry for any misspelling but i broke my glasses and everything is a blur.plus im tired of closing 1 eye angd holding half of my glasses to one eye.

silverstenislife Falcon_CMH silverstenislife Falcon_CMH Bottom line EVGA ships cards with screws in them that won't come out I don't care what tool you use I have 1 to prove it. You cannot grab the screw left over sticking out with pliers and even turn it. IT WAS NOT this guys fault or any incorrect tool being used. It was something in the manufacturing process that did it. No it was NOT EVGA's fault that he or you couldn't unscrew the screws, every screw can be removed, you just need to work on it. You people are ridiculous....if you happened to send it in to evga for them to remove the screws don't they get it out? do they have some magic wand? (I think someone else said this but i don't remember who) You have no idea what you re talking about. I said EVGA "shipped" the GPU I never said they manfactured it. Also I never said it could not be gotten out. But when it requires drastic measures to get it out its a manufacturing defect period. And whoever sells the card is responsible period by law. Better educate yourself on the facts before you go making up ridiculous statements like you did. And backplates are sold which requires the screws to be removed which instigated the whole issue. I never said they manufactured it either guy, but i am just curious at that statement...who does manufacture the cards for evga then? I am pretty sure they do. I never said any ridiculous statements either. And i know exactly what i am talking about! I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SCREW TOO. I spent hours taking the stupid thing out, it required alot of pressure on the screw and effort, and i stripped them really bad too. I'm sorry that you couldn't remove a screw but don't be blaming other company's. And. No offence to you falcon, but every post i have read that you have typed annoys me. could you please tone it down a little theres no need to use big letters or a flame war and like i said i am not blaming evga nor nvidia but i am angry at the retailer for blaming me of damaging the screws when i know i didn't but once again this has nothing to do about this thread

There is no bad screw you just have problems taking them off! again and that has something to do with this thread zzcool. And if the retailer wants to blame you, they can because they sold it to you without the intension of you unscrewing things. I'm done in this thread, you guys have fun talking about the already known problem of tight screws. Goodnight gentlemen

All you guys are killing me with this Pecision screw driver crap, for petes sake its a phillips Head screw, I could get out with a 50 cent screw driver and if not drill the dam thing out, A 5 year old could do that.. Man I was in the Excavating bussiness for 28 years and worked on my own equipment, crap changed 5000lb transmissions by myself and you all are worrying about some little screw. This thread is really funny !!!!!

I have to say going over thread I'm a bit disappointed in the tone happening here. There's no need to be so offensive and the comments are rude. I think some need to relax and if they can't maybe move on. Not cool at all. I'm also disappointed the mods don't jump it and try to calm the situation down a bit. It's outta hand and is not a way to treat another Evga brother. Very hostile language. If Falcon says there's an issue with some cards I believe him and we should leave it at that.. At first it was the crappy screwdriver, after he told you it was Bosch(which btw, is a German company who makes precision instruments and tools all other companies wish they could be the same level as them), it still didn't matter. I say if it bothers you so much, take a breather and come back calm. Those who were disrespectful really should apologize.

I have a 470 and I put the backplate on without a hitch. Yes the screws are tiny, that's why I used a craftsman screwdriver with a magnetic tip.

Nvidia does manufacture EVGA's NVIDIA 480 GTX and all subsequent NVIDIA cards. As does Nvidia manufacture ZOTAC's NVIDIA 480 GTX and all subsequent NVIDIA cards. Nvidia is the graphics card provider to EVGA, Zotac and the like. You should verify what you say before you claim your opinions as fact. This is not an inflammatory statement, but one of advice from someone who has been in the same position you're in right now. Don't discredit yourself for your prides sake. Also, there's 100% no need to be such a negative factor on these boards. If you want to prove your better than someone, go arm wrestle them. Don't argue on the internet. Falcon, +1. I ran into a very, very tight screw on my PC build. Looked like Luo Ferigno had gone ape-crap on it. So smashed I could barely fit my "precision" screw driver. I ended up using a #1 Sq. drive. Let the record stand, I'm an Electrician. I encounter ridiculously tight screws on a DAILY basis. Sometimes my Klein (industry standard screw drivers for commercial work for over 40 years) work and sometimes my "beater Ruth's" (cheap-o-tastic screw driver's) work. Sometimes it's just a matter of manning up and getting that screw out. Sometime's it's nothing more than finessing it out so I can throw it across the room in triumphant giddy-ness. I totally agree that it happens. The only advice I can offer to the OP is... and I mean this in no disrespectful way, use some punctuation, bud. I'm not a grammar Nazi but I have a really hard time reading your posts, heh. I can't always tell what it is you're saying when with the ".". Thanks and I hope you have better luck with them screws. Also! Overclocking isn't too dangerous if done correctly. I'd recommend a moderate overclock on your CPU to really let your GPU spread it's legs a bit. Stay under 4ghz (which you should be able to attain easily) and make sure it all runs smooth as better. You'll love it! And it's fun once you get into it ;)

You know, it happens. Like veryone else said, it can happen at any point from naufacturing to your own tear down. You can just leave the screw out and never worry about it again. I wound up ding that on a 260SC because of some screw issues. Eventually, i just went to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and got some star head button head bolts. Don't remember the size exactly, but 8/32 i believe was the size. Get a short one, 1/4 or 3/8 and grind down what is too long. Works great and they have NEVER EVER EVER stripped. I am actually surprised that EVGA doesn't use star screws, they are so much more reliable. If anyone could post the actual size, it would be quite beneficial.

zzcool hi i have a question since i got in a major dispute with the retailer i bought my SC from i bought a evga backplate from evga and decided to install it all screws wen't up without a problem what so ever untill i get to the last one which is completely impossible note this screw did not have locktite and wouldn't move no matter what is this normal as the retailer is blaming me for the whole thing that i used the wrong screw driver and damaged the screw i did not use the wrong screw driver i actually used a precision screw driver that came with different bits this type and used the bit that fit the best in the other screws and i had no problem what so ever with the screws and i was extremely careful the other screws wen't up without a problem even the screw with locktite (blue around it) untill i get to the screw located in the corner so is this a common thing as i am right now in a major situation due to this screw no matter what i tell them they keep repeting that i damaged the screw i know that the screw was unmovable it wouldn't go up no matter what i pressed and turned slowly the only thing turning was the screw driver yes i managed to strip the screw so i would like to know please only post here if you had the problem if you want to judge me then please do not post here send me a pm if you want me to explain this thread is only about the screw nothing else and i repeat i have nothing against evga what so ever the old thread i made about this problem was nothing against evga so please if you don't have anything good to say unless relevant don't say it at all thankyou It's common. Had two screws messed up on one of my cards. What retailer did you get it from?

zzcool, No offense but judging from your posts and the replies you get, i believe you are not reasonable person to deal with. i can understand why they are giving you the cold shoulder. I also have no clue to why you created this thread, the info you are after you could easily have found searching the forum or google to document whatever you are after. Keep in mind that by putting the backplate on, you are modifying the original product. You don't see Falcon and others that have experienced the same problem as you complaining about it and demanding a new product now do you? You don't see them create pointless threads again and again neither do you? Here are some tips from me for you on how to solve this in the best and smoothest way for all parties; -Don't make this a public disaster, e.g, don't post here on the forum -Contact someone responsible at EVGA directly, all their names and email addresses can be found on the homepage. -Have a humble approach, be reasonable and have a compromising attidude. -Work out a solution, be happy and enjoy life. It is too short and precious to waste on a simple matter like this. And finally; don't get rid of your EVGA gear unless you are totally giving up on pc's. I think it is safe to safe that when it comes to customer care EVGA is on of, if not THE best in the market. Best regards and wishes for a happy future from a fellow swede and Komplett customer.

Hey, if it does not come out easy, drill it and use a screw extractor. These things happen. I dont see how much else can be added. He had a simple question, with answers that are more in line with YES or NO!!! My answer, yes. I have a 260 with screws that i had to replace from McMaster-Carr.com. I checked the size, and they are 8/32, just get the length that suits you. Keep the springs that come with them. If you want, get some star crews (torx), and you will NEVER have to worry about stripping them in the future. Just make sure you replace the TORX with Philips 8/32 in case you have to RMA. Not sure if original screws is important, but it may be.
