Like 90%  of the time 50 tests of linx is good. I have crashed on test 65 before. It was a memory issue. Prime95 blend would be better to run. Not as hot. Run that for one full pass (usually takes about 10 - 11 hours)

You don't have to though. I doubt you will ever crash again. If you do it is most likely a memory/board issue.

Ive never messed with those settings. I keep them on default. That isn't what is causing your instability. IOH as well, just raising this will not cause instability unless it is heat related. Go over all your settings. refer to your screenshots and run LinX again after a fresh restart. When you say failed, do you mean linx error or did you get a BSOD. Let me know.

Linx is buggy, try prime blend overnight, Do your games run better now? When you boot go into bios what is northbridge temp? That is only place to read it.

My first choice would be put your memory back to 2:8. Then of course you could drop your Vtt a little.

Yes I agree with that, 2:8 will be alot more stable. Although you could leave it at 2:10 and up the vdimm to 1.67 or 1.68 because you are overclocking your memory.

You'd probably get even better performance by going to 2:8 and then maybe trying tighter timings......

ok let me at least try to run prime for a while to see if its stable then I will do what u say lower my ram to 2:8 with tighter timing

now what timing would I set it to with  2:8 and what other setting would I need to change thnxs for the help ?

Re:help me overclock my classified plz 2009/12/23 15:41:28 (permalink)
+1  Ive mentioned this before as well.

Check my sig. Running 1733mhz 6-6-6-18 @ 1.72 vdimm. Trying to run my ram at 2000mhz is a crap shoot unless im at 201bclck, otherwise i have to set a 2:12 divider and that jacks up my uncore frequency thus needing more vtt.

Im not scared to run 1.72v my case has excellent airflow and its only .07v above stock. I remember when I had DDR2 my stock voltage was 2.0v  I had it at 2.2v for over a year overclocked until I sold it to a friend. They still run fine. Remember 1.65 to 1.66 is only .01v.  DDR3 can be adjusted in much smaller increments than the old DDR2.

You will have to experiment with timings but think you could do 6-6-6 with 2:8 or perhaps just up the voltage a bit more on ram and keep it at 2:10.

so even though my ram would be underclocked but since my timing would be tighter I would need to riase my vdimm most likely?

I already rise the vdimm to 1.67 with the current setting and the 2:10 divider and I as linX and all I saw was the it got an error alot faster or a BSOD alot sooner than if I had it at 1.65v any suggestion like would I need to go even higher than that to see and improvement  ?

Re:help me overclock my classified plz 2009/12/23 15:53:41 (permalink)
If you have no luck increasing the vdimm, turn it back to 2:8. This will lower you uncore frequency down to x16 (make sure its set) which will allow you to lower your VTT.  Since your ram is 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 @ 1.65v, I would set it to 2:8 @  6-6-6-18 @ 1.65v

Check this out. My ram is 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v

I can do 1733mhz 7-7-7-18 @ 1.63v perfectly stable. If I go to 6-6-6-18 I need 1.72 vdimm. 6-6-6-18 on my ram is like setting 5-5-5-15 on yours. Hope that gives you an idea.

In the real world you will not see much if any difference from 2:8 to 2:10 maybe even faster at 2:8 and 6-6-6 timings. And no if you go 2:8 do not increase your ram voltage set it to 1.65. But if you try 2:10 you may want to set your ram voltage higher than 1.67.

Sorry im a slow typer ( and eating pizza atm)

Take the vdimm all the way up to 1.68 to 1.72.  You should be able to get it stable this way. If you dont want to run vdimm that high then you're going to have to lower your ram speed back down to 2:8 and try 6-6-6-18 @ 1.63, 1.64, 1.65, 1.66, 1.67 etc.... This is assuming your system is already 100% stable at 2:8 with stock voltage and timings.

Reason I say 1.63 is because my ram is 2000mhz 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v

I can do 1733mhz 7-7-7-18 @ 1.63v perfectly stable.

so from what I understand running my memory with tighter timing than running it at a higher clock is faster correct?

+1  for Prime95 Blend.  My #1 choice for checking the ram stability in windows.

memtest+86 is just that it will test your memory, but I do not think it tests for stability in your system working with cpu.(someone please correct me if I am wrong) it is not a stress test.

Using Prime95
Small FFT's = Heavy CPU testing
Large FFT's = Heavy memory testing
Blend = both CPU & Mem

its different, i forget exactly, maybe someone else can clarify me, but the higher speed has an advantage one way, while lower timings has an advantage another way. One has better latencies and one has better write speed... something like that. I am not sure though, someone will have to clarify this better than I can.

I would say set to 1.65 then if stable then work it down if you so desire.
