Hello,
I'm hoping someone around here can help me out.
I have 2 EVGA GTX 970 cards that I would like to run in SLI.
I've got them both in an EVGA X99 Mini.

one card is a reference design, generic card.
04G-P4-1970-KR
The other is an SC with ACX 2.0 and a totally different PCB.
04G-P4-0974-KR

Is there a trick to getting these 2 working together?
I've tried 3 different bridges.
Windows/Nvidia control panel acknowledges that there are two 970s installed, but the SLI bridge isn't detected.
I even tried 2 bridges at the same time.

Is there a BIOS update that I should be doing?
is the reference PCB not compatible with the custom one?

thanks.

Man, this has got to be a joke.

I caught newegg in stock with an gtx 980 acx 2.0 on the weekend.  I ordered it and right away sent a support ticket to evga asking if they would be compatible with a reference 980 SC or I would cancel the order.  They assured me that they would be.

Pumcy, don't let them give you the line about your motherboard or any other nonsense being the issue because it's not.

I tried every suggestion evga tech support gave me including changing motherboards and none of it worked.

The program that Sajin linked works and it's your only solution until nvidia gets off their butt and fixes this.

Very disappointed! Same problem here! Two EVGAs - one reference one ACX - and SLI won't work. Now the worst part, I'm in Brazil so if I want to trade my card for a non reference now I would have to pay at least another U$210 for import duties . We really need this fixed!

I have confirmed with the Product Team that due to differences in the PCBs on the  blower-style cooler cards and the longer PCB of the ACX cooler cards, they will not function in SLI together. There are third party workarounds that may help as Sajin noted, but any workaround like this is not officially supported. There is the option to step up the blower-style card to an ACX 2.0 card in order to re-establish SLI functionality if you are within the 90 day step up period.

To sum up, the cards with part #'s 04G-P4-1972-KR or 04G-P4-1970-KR will only work in SLI together. These two part numbers will not SLI with any other 970 part number currently available.

So basically you can't mix Blower Style with ACX without having a problem. DOH!

Indeed. At that point its Different SLI Auto or change out one of the cards. I was just in that boat. Decided to change out the cards since I would be screwed if say... DSLIA didn't work with... say... windows 10 or something down the road.

Did something change with regards to this situation? I have an EVGA 970 SC Blower style card and an EVGA FTW+ ACX 2.0 style card and they are currently SLI-ing just fine.

    Dear gelfie,

Can you please tell me what are the device no/id that your cards have? It should be included in the list that is shown in the below link:

If your cards device id are not under the same column i am really surprised that your cards are running in SLI. Are you sure that your EVGA 970 SC is blower style? If you search the model names you mentioned above they show identical cards. I don't believe your EVGA 970 SC is blower style.

I am interested in knowing this because i will buy a GTX970 reference model soon (blower style i suppose?) and i am planning to SLI in the future.

Any help on this matter is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi YovaXL,

According to the back of the boxes:

One has part number: 04G-P4-3978-KR (This is the FTW+ ACS card)
The other has: 04G-P4-1972-KR (This is the SC card with the plastic shroud, and single blower fan at the rear)

And this is link to the product page for the blower card:

These cards have been running in SLI on both an Asus z97 Gryphon Motherboard and an Asus ROG Maximus 7 Ranger motherboard using the supplied Asus SLI bridges. Windows 7, 64bit.

    Hope this helps

EVGA restricted the models that could SLI together for inadequate reasons in my opinion. So you need to either use the software called Diffrient SLI which would avoid the issue of the SLI 'lock' or you can sell/step up one of the cards to get one that is compatible. Otherwise there is nothing else you can do. But like mentioned before, Diffrient SLI is software that creates a loophole that eliminates the 'lock' on the cards that EVGA put in without much of reason. Diffrient SLI will neither hurt your card or void your warranty, has however you could loose some performance (1-2%) compaired to two of the same cards in SLI. I would highly suggest using the software to avoid unnescasary spending of more money and it is also a simple work around.

Supossedly the lock has something to do with preventing consumers from SLI'ing the first and second wave of cards when the second wave had fixes of problems seen in the first wave. So they thought it would be good to prevent the old models and new models from SLI'ing together. I don't really agree with them because they seem to work okay in SLI for everyone that has come to the forums about the issue. But I suppose there may be disadvantages beyond my knowledge of the matter.

    Thank you for your reply.

Have you used the "Differentsliauto 1.1"?

If not then you are the only person i found who successfully SLI'ed two 970 with different types of part numbers that don't fall in the same column in the link mentioned earlier. This is really really strange.

I have never used any third party utilities to make them work. They just work. All I have is the standard windows install, and the standard nvidia drivers (and geforce experience).
