just intalled the card today in my case everything running perfect , then i tried 3d mark 11 benchmark

the card boosts to 2000mhz instead of 1785mhz without any oc?? and i hear something like coil whine , is this normal ?

it only does this at extreme load , when i tried game like dark souls 3 it operates at normal clocks

Boost to 2000MHz is normal. It will slow down when the core temperature will be too high (thermal throttling), when it will reach the power limit (power throttling) or when it is idle (idle throttling).

On my GTX1080 FTW, coil whine is audible in 3DMark Ice Storm test. GPU generates frames like crazy and need power.

Edit: Boost is set by NVIDIA GPU Boost 3.0.

All normal.

Solutions to coil whine:

#1 Put glue on the noisy coils. Only works if coils are exposed. Will void warranty if done.
#2 Run ati tool overnight to burn the card in. Click show 3d view to start ati render test.
#3 Increase/decrease voltage on the card.
#4 Try a different psu.
#5 Use frame rate limiter software to limit fps in game to reduce whine.
#6 RMA the card.
#7 Deal with the whine.

thank you guys for the advice,i don't quit understand if the maximum boost clock is 2000 mhz why they would write 1785 mhz at the specs
and the coil whine isn't really problem since it does't happen until the card is pushed to the limit by heavy benchmark

so the question is there an option to turn off the (gpu boost 3) feature  or cap the boost at 1785mhz as it written at the card specification so it won't push the card so hard?

To disable boost you would have to perform a vbios mod. Currently there isn't a way to modify vbioses on pascal cards. To make the card run at lower speeds you could underclock the card using msi afterburner.

There is absolutely no need to do this.
Everything is working normal and like it should.
If you do this you are losing performance you purchased.

aha now i see , i was just confused about what's written in the specs and what the actual clocks is, that's all, now that i know it's all normal , i should leave it as it is
i haven't been on the hardware and gaming stuff for about 2 years so looks like im getting rusty , cheers

'' i don't quit understand if the maximum boost clock is 2000 mhz why they would write 1785 mhz at the specs ''

I think its not the max boost  higher the better  your card is  stock , but that   1785 is the min guaranteed max clock  for that series / model  of card    like a full FTW gaming   min guaranteed  boost clock is  higher then the FTW ''dt'' ,  the dt is a lower binned card

ftw/dt
  • 1506MHz Base Clock
  • 1683MHz Boost Clock
ftw  gaming
  • 1607MHz Base Clock
  • 1797MHz Boost Clock
same with like my 900  card   stock  boost speced is  1228  but my card stock out of the box boosted to 1355     so its just you got a card better then speced  ..  that's all  so if you got a  1070 hybrid  and it cant boost to the specs shown from evga  [lower then  1785 speced for a 1070 hybrid]   you can rma  for a card that can meet spec.   cause you did not get what they claimed that card can do and guaranteed to do so  at a min.

that's the best I understand all that

my original gtx 1070 sc was 2000 mhz out the box, this second one i got brand new with all thermal pads / new vbios is at 1950mhz out the box no overclocking.

normal. good card imo.
