after some nagging from my buddy violence i finally poped the top and re timmed my 3770k with AS5. i used a new hobby knife and some slow even pressure cuts to cut the glue and get to the chip. using arcticlean i cleaned and relapped the heatsink. the get the glue off the chip itself i used my thumb nail and rubbed gently. put a light coat of AS5 on the chip inside slapped the heatsink back on and centered it then locked it down in the clamp. right on first boot and folding with out letting the AS5 cure its already running 5'C cooler in both linux and F@H! i only snapped 1 pic sorry guys i was focused on what i was doing.

hehe, pretty cool  good job on this one!  bunch of people in OCN did same (some failed and killed the CPU), but it IS tempting I have to admit myself for now though I want to keep the warranty, because I still have an overclocking plan on it and might use it to try hunting for a better chip one more time

I used to use Shin Etsu X23 (same model as you pick), it was great, but that syringe lasted me only for a few applications. for now I am out of "soft" TIMs, so at the moment running the IC Diamond, but I want to remove as it "laps" the chip surface and I cannot loose the writing over IHS if I want to send it back fro RMA one more time. have you seen this new TIM yet? could be a hit, ordered a syringe for testing: http://www.prolimatech.co...cts/detail.asp?id=1582

Careful with putting TIM directly on the die, if the stuff is abrasive or you attach the heatsink with too much pressure, you can damage the CPU die. The IHS isn't just for integrated heat spreading, it also protects the die. Don't think you can RMA a CPU if you remove the IHS, I hope you guys can afford another processor if something goes wrong.

okay time to go big or go home!!!!    running LinX check out the temps!!!! 54'C at times!  64'c on the CPU at full load!  at idle with the room temp at 72  while folding, this is 10'c cooler then normal!

that is a success  I've seen 50/50 chances over OCN members attempts in either fixing the temps or completely destroying the chip, yours is a very nice result 10C below what it is was is before, very good! the maximum improvement I've seen was 20C lower temps under load then before the procedure pity, it voids warranty, if it didn't I would do this on my chip right now, but am still debating if I should send it back for RMA under tuning protection plan (especially if it start degrading in next few weeks) or just void it and take my chances soon ... I however am aiming at 5GHz in a week or so, voltage wise it's very well doable ... temps wise however ... I am hitting thermal limits since 4.8GHz under IBT ... just keep adding more fans, improving water flow and offsetting my room ambient with AC at full blast :D

yeah the liquid ultra is pretty amazing stuff.
i just did this 2 days ago and used liquid ultra on both die and ihs/heatsink. had the 3770k 5.0 @ 1.5v, HT on max temp 86c on second core under prime95, with 2 gpu's on the same loop.
right now it's at 4.8 @ 1.37v ish, around 70 ish max, i forgot.
trying to keep dropping voltage on it :P

Got Some questions as i am thinking of doing it my self, I see the improvement in temps under full load but for gaming what are the temp improvements i want to run 4.5-4.6 for gaming (using a h100) and i wondering doing this will it help or will i notice a improvement? also how are people killing there chips doing this what is going wrong for some people Ive watch a lot of videos about this and i don't see how some are killing there chips?

it will run cooler in gaming 5-8'C so you will have less heat in you case. people kill chips by forcing the process to fast and nick the chip under the IHS or they cut the PCB and ruin a leads.
