Recently just reinstalled windows on a new SSD and installed all my programs. I installed EVGA E-LEET and EVGA Precision. Here is my problem. EVGA precision and eleet show up on my desktop with the blue and yellow shield icon on top of thier shortcut icons. Quick research shows this to be tied to UAC controls usually, and the way to get rid of it is to turn UAC off. Heh funny story it is already off, i turned it off before i even installed EVGA software. Also i never clicked the run as administrator check box either. (I read if you do that it will never go away, the shield that is).

Fine whatever it has a shield on the icon but it does not prompt me for anything like its supposed to with that shield so whatever I will live with it...or so I thought. I like to have a clean desktop however. WHen i delete the shortcuts off my desktop EVGA precision and eleet now have no icon at all in my start menu. It shows up as the icon that windows have no clue what to do with....if I click it it works fine, but no icon.

I been trying to research a way to fix this for a week. No luck.

Any ideas?

    Thats unfortunate cause i have done like 5 fresh installs in the last month experimenting with SSD's and it seemed to happen all 5 times. The only time this did not happen was my first windows install on my old HDD 7 months ago.

    Perhaps I am doing it wrong? >.>

    Check the disk, a single scratch or piece of debris could mess up an install. I know I have had a few games in the past get wacky after a few installs, checked the disk to find a piece of junk on the disk, re-installed and it worked fine.

    Well all I know is that I have never had a problem shuting off UAC,but I use only regular hardrives..Maybe its something to do with SSDs?

    UAC turned off the same as it always did on my Corsair F60 so it's probably something weird that got screwed up in installation.

    Seacove, here is how to fix it;

    Right-click on the program in the start menu, go to properties, check run as admin, then go to change icon and change icon to another  in the icons list, save and then pin it to the taskbar again.

    This is what i did to solve it when it happened on me.

    Will give this a try, thanks for the info.

    Also this is a brand new SSD so it is "like new" cause it is new. So either its an installation of windows bug im guessing or windows hates SSD's :(
