Hi all.

  here's what I have :

 i7 930
1000 w Silverstone PSU
 gigabyte X58 MoBo
6 gig ram

and for GPU I have 2 GTX 460 OC 1 gig cards

problem I'm having is I would like to run 3 23 inch monitors
I'm using 3 of the 4 available DVI outs.
no matter what combination I plug the monitors in, I can't get the display to stretch across the 3 screens.
When I got back to just 2 screens it works ok, other than if I go to play a game it will only display on 1 screen.

  I DL'd the latest 460 driver today.

so, anyone got a simple walk through I could use to set this up?
I'm not the most tech savvy person, so keep it straightforward if possible

I googled everything I could think of already, but can't get the display to do what I want.

  many thanks !

SURE,  read this... skip step 17-18 for normal surround that is not for 3D

    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2667

Question   How do I setup 3D Vision Surround?
Answer   Follow these steps to set up 3D Vision Surround:
    1.     Open the NVIDIA Control Panel (Figure 10) through the Windows Control Panel or by right-clicking on the desktop.
    2.     From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under 3D Settings, select Configure SLI, PhysX, Surround to open the associated page.
    3.     Select Span displays with Surround, and then click the Configure button to launch the wizard.

Figure 1: Select Span displays with Surround to start the configuration process.

    4.     The Display status dialog (Figure 2) checks the connectors on the cards to determine if the displays are connected properly.
    5.     If the displays need to be moved, do it at this time. The interface will automatically detect the change and show it on this screen.
    6.     Once all three displays are connected properly, press the Apply button to continue the setup procedure.

Figure 2: Connect the displays to the graphic cards using the diagram in this dialog. The Display status shows if a display is properly connected to the GPUs.
    7.     In the Arrange displays dialog (Figure3), select the Orientation of the displays (either Landscape or Portrait).  Please note if you intend to run 3D Vision Surround, Portrait mode is only supported with 3D Vision Projectors.  3D Vision LCDs do not support Portrait mode.

Figure 3: Click the Identify button to determine the correct numbered order for your displays.
    8.     Click the Identify button to determine the number order of the displays.
    9.     You should see numbers appear on all three screens as shown in Figure 3.

Figure 4: You will see numbers appear on all three displays when the Identify button is pressed. This is the numbered arrangement you need to make your desktop work correctly.
    10.     Arrange the Surround display order to match your displays by dragging the icons to match the numbers on displays.
FOR EXAMPLE: Figure 3 shows the screens using a 3 1 2 configuration. Grab the icon with the 1 and move it in-between icons 3 and 2 (as shown in Figure 4).
NOTE: The display numbering used here is not the same numbering used in the Windows panel.

Figure 5: Grab the numbered icon with your mouse and drag it into position to match the numbered orientation displayed on your screens.
    11.     After the icons are arranged to match the numbers on the displays, click the Next button.
    12.     NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround includes controls that allow for the adjustment of the displays to compensate for monitor bezel gaps, allowing for a more realistic viewing of full-screen games.

Figure 6: Use this dialog to select whether you want to adjust bezel correction or not.
    13.     Adjust the width of the pixels between the displays until the image spans the displays so that it looks correct (not stretched).

Figure 7: This is where you select which bezel to adjust the width for, and how much it should be adjusted.
    14.     The bezel correction image of the road will look like Figure 8 as it is adjusted.

Figure 8: The two halves of the road image will move up and down as the pixel width is adjusted in the dialog. Be sure to align the images on both sides of the center display to ensure bezel correction is properly configured.
    15.     A new resolution will be created if Bezel Correction is adjusted. Select this new resolution inside games to take advantage of the new settings.
FOR EXAMPLE: If you take a 5760x1080 resolution and add 114 pixels of bezel correction in-between the two end displays, you get 5988x1080 (The math is 1920+114+1920+114+1920). The software renders the extra amount of pixels virtually behind the bezels so the image appears contiguous between the displays.

Figure 9: When you enable bezel correction, a bezel-corrected version of each 3-wide display resolution is added to the list of available resolutions - both within games as well as within the NVIDIA Control Panel. In the game settings above, the bezel corrected resolution would be the larger 5838x1080 resolution.
    16.     If you do not use bezel correction and wish to remove the extra resolutions to simplify the list, run the Surround wizard and select No at the "Do you want to correct for display bezels?" screen.

That would have been really impressive if you actually created all those figures and what not yourself. Good info though.

    many thanks !

Although I can follow up until number 7

at that point I can see three screens with the number 1 stretched across all 3.
so, playing around the closest I am getting is having all 3 screens on, and indeed stretched, although not in the correct order, + the displays are the right height but not width within each monitor.

    UPDATE:

     Changed resolution to; 3840 x 1024
It looks right within each monitor
BUT still needs to be shuffled as what should be in the middle is on the left, what should be right is middle and what should be left is on the right

is it as simple as unplugging and re-plugging into different DVI outs to change the order?

    ok,
did a restart, and as if by magic I got the option to move the displays around
so, it looks like all has worked out now.
although weirdly this forum page is flickering like crazy, but no other web pages are.....
I just need to fine tune the resolution a bit and I'll be happy.

     thanks all

I got those earlier today, so that wasn't it.

I did uninstall Adobe Flash PLayer - Active X Plugin, and that fixed it.

just wish the overall display was a bit sharper, not as good as I was hoping, so I might drop back down to 2 monitors.

    AAAARRRGH

so, I did not like the way my display looked stretched over 3 23 inch screens.
really wide, but very short in comparison.

so, I am back to having the 2 460s in SLI, but got my 2 identical Dell 23 inch monitors next to each other.

I cannot get the display to setup at all now
I keep losing things off the sides, + can't get the second screen setup at all sometimes.
      my gosh this is frustrating.
I just want to plug the things in, switch on and play.
It seems to my limited knowledge, that putting a second 460 card in my system has done nothing but cause headaches.

any help greatly appreciated as that's been about 12 hours now, + 2 trips to the store, + countless times googling to no avail.

     thanks again

NVIDIA Surround only works with three displays. If you want to game with multiple displays, it has to be three. With AMD EyeFinity you can do any number of displays 2 to 6.

IMHO, so far NVIDIA Surround is crap compared to AMD EyeFinity as far as options.
