    Hi Community,

As I've not heard back from EVGA yet I just wanted to check if others have had this experience and how it was resolved. I returned an EVGA Supernova 550 G2 PSU under an authorised RMA. The replacement unit sent was a Supernova 650 G2. I'd like a replacement 550 but now I'm concerned I'm going to be asked to pay for shipping (again) in order to return this incorrect replacement.

So correct me if I'm wrong. You sent back a 550GS psu and gained an additional 100w with a replacement 650GS psu! I believe they are both the same form factor size so where is the issue?

I will correct you, with pleasure. I sent back a 550 G2 and received a 650 G2. The 550 G2 is a superior product. I do not need 650W. I am asking that my warranty be fulfilled. Please do not reply unless you have experience with this issue.

Sorry for replying (again) and please do forgive me for my further questioning. Yes I do have experience to mention that companies reserve the right to replace like for like or even upgrade if they see fit. But I feel you have me and many at a disadvantage, as I'm obviously 550G2 ignorant, so please can you enlighten me as well as others so I and they can be more informed on the superiority of the 550G2 over the inferior 650G2.

    Yours Truly

    & willing to learn.

    Edit: My apologies.

What is wrong with the Supernova 650 G2, why are you complaining here you got a better PSU.
You are not going to use any more power than if you had a 550.
Your Power Supply does not run the full 550 Watts or 650 Watts when in use, it only pulls what it needs to run your Computer.

If this is the incorrect place to seek advice from people who may have been sent an incorrect replacement model, then I apologise. However, if this thread is permitted on this forum then I would be very happy to hear from people who have resolved such an issue and how they did it.

Looking forward to hearing from those willing to help.

When EVGA has No Stock of your 550G2 What would you like to do wait a few months or get one now of equal or better than what you have now.
I works the same way with Graphics Cards, Your GTX 550 Died and they send you a GTX 660 to replace it.
If you are unhappy with what you got then you need to contact EVGA and ask them what options you have.
Still what is the Problem with what they Gave You?

You may want to review this http://www.evga.com/howtorma/ How to RMA.

If you have any questions about the preceding RMA terms and conditions, please contact our Customer Service by calling 888-881-EVGA (3842) option 2. Customer Service can be reached 9AM - 5:30PM Pacific M-F.

I just found out why the 550 is superior to the 650. 550 is a Pentagonal Pyramidal Number, how ever did I ever miss that.

It's a FREE upgrade from 550W to 650W.  If your worried the 650w PSU will use more electricity, don't be.

EVGA, if my memory serves me right without reading the terms and conditions. Reserves the right to replace your product with equal or better performance in the case they do not have what you returned in stock.

So, I'm going to assume, they did not have what you sent them, so they gave you an upgrade.

If you are concerned with power draw, then like bcavnaugh said, your computer only uses what it needs, not the entire 550w. If EVGA gave me a 1200w to replace my 1000w they would get a huge thank you. I don't think anybody here understands your reasoning for wanting to exchange what is essentially a free upgrade.

Those are both the same platform, Superflower Leadex. The 550 G2 is only a better PSU when you compare ripple, which between the two the ripple is so low it doesn't even matter.

Nothing here to moan about whatsoever

    Techpowerup on the 650....
"There is the 550 G2 unit for 10 bucks less should you need a PSU for a single-VGA system you don't intend to upgrade with a second VGA in the future. However, given the low hold-up time of the 550 G2—at least with my sample—I would gladly pay the small price difference for an upgrade to the 650 G2."

This thread is pointless now imo!

Thank you all for your opinions. You all assumed a few things and you all (but for Zuhl3156) avoided answering my questions. The 650 G2 is an excellent PSU, I am not disputing that. Why I think the 550 G2 unit is superior is irrelevant. There are a myriad reasons and circumstances that one would prefer the 550 G2. Either you've not thought this through or you've decided that in your opinion you consider such reasons insignificant. I did not come here asking for your opinions about this decision. Naturally, your sarcasm and mockery was not appreciated either.

I do understand basic electronics so anyone else who wishes to inform me that an increase in a PSU's wattage does not increase electricity consumption on the same system can save their time. To iterate, as it does seem necessary, I want an identical replacement. I think it is only polite to ask a customer first if they are willing to wait for a replacement to come into stock. If not then ask them if they would be happy with another model. Making the decision for the customer is what I am objecting to. A simple email would suffice.

I am not in the US and I have contacted EVGA. My original post explained that I am waiting to hear from them. I had hoped for some insight here but I was mistaken. I'll deal with EVGA directly in the future. I'll consider this thread closed now, thank you. I hope everyone has a nice day.

Well considering this thread will not be closed and for those still wondering, here is why I think the 550 G2 is superior:

My system has a very low wattage that is going to reduce in the near future. As efficiency curves and stats demonstrate both the 550 G2 and 650 G2 are most efficient at 50% load in cold and hot temperatures. The 650 G2 is not suitable for me as to use it optimally I would never reach 50% load especially considering the unit's high efficiency (>85%) and even considering degredation over the coming years. The ripple control is superior on the 550 G2. For very low power systems, getting a larger PSU will result in lower efficiency and in this case, slightly lower ripple control. Yes, I am splitting hairs but it's my preference. I just wanted my question answered about resolving this surprise RMA result. I have closed the email account associated with this forum account and I have requested that my account and the thread be closed. I will no longer be able to post here. Thank you again for all your input and I'm sorry if this thread caused you any discomfort.

Edit: Just to add I am very happy to wait months, if necessary, for a replacement model.
