Hey guys!

I thought since many of us are looking for this particular hybrid cooler for our titan x, we should make an official thread about how it performs. I asked on another thread but i think it got lost and nobody will answer. Since i think it is a very pertinent question i'm going to ask it here.

Is the 980 hybrid cooler cooling the vrms enough so it won't overheat ?

So it is now up for debate and those of you who has done the cooler installation, it would be nice to share thoughts and temps of vrm also performance increase that the hybrid cooler has been able to yield!

Looking forward to this!

I don't get why someone who just bought a $1,000 CPU won't spend just under $300 to properly watercool it

Hey,

I speak for myself, it's clearly not about the money. It's about the knowledge. I personnally do not feel confident enough to build a custom cooling loop. So i am looking towards the easy way out. I spent some time on the EK site and damn their blocks are crazy nice and price is affordable, but when you've never done it, fittings, brackets, pumps, reservoirs, tubing etc etc can be overwhelming. Again i'm speaking for myself. Always used AiO and it always went well.

I live in montreal, canada and if there was a place where they built custom
Loops etc, i would gladly pay for it, since you're right. The proper way would be the custom way.

That is where I am with it.  I have run custom WC in the past as well, and I have the money to do it, but I have my days where I just don't want to have to mess with it.  I look at it all the time, though, and have the urge to do it.  I used an AIO on my CPU for the first time on this last build and was surprisingly pleased by it.

I'm not sure what I will do, but I am interested in the AIO method if it is effect because it is one and done.  I will follow this thread and see what others are saying that have done it if any start chiming in.

There isn't a GPU kit, but you can use a CPU kit

The only thing that buying a kit does is put all the components together in one box anyway.  You can buy the same items separately as listed and substitute in the GPU block if getting the right things makes you nervous.

That doesn't address the other concerns that someone may have.

A lot of us have no desire to water cool. If I change the cooler on mine it will be an Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV.

That is only an Air Cooling Cooler Not an AIO Cooler. And a AIO Cooler is not really Water Cooling like a Custom Water Loop.

Hey

this is good news. Although would be nice to have a video that showcases the "said buzzing sound". Might be annoying in the long run.

No, I have the real GTX 980 HYBRID Card, and it is whisper quiet that is the AIO unit.
I do not hear the Pump at all.

The pump is not loud but clearly audible, a "metallic" sound comparable to a HDD at idle. Less annoying than my previous Kraken G10 "VRM burner" + Kraken X31 but definitely louder than reference GTX980/TitanX cooler at 26% fan speed. I have 2 upgrade kits bought within two week so I doubt it is "only my rig"...

Someone asked for a video so here you are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25515gnTmjM

My PC is very silent (<700 rpm fans, no HDD). I used 4-Pin PWM Fan (Female) to 4-Pin Mini GPU Fan (Male) connector to plug the pumps into motherboard header. Thanks to that I was able to turn pumps off at wiil.

Actually it isn't that bad as it sounds on that video, especially when a case is closed. Also, it is much quiter when you reduce voltage but I'm not sure if it is safe in the long run.

I would think if there is any noise it would be a faulty pump like I had in my old H80,this should run very quiet as im thinking about doing it myself.

A little rattling noise isn't that bad. Plus when you take into account that the case door panels are shut when you are gaming i din't think it is uber noticeable. Still no words on vrm heat though.. That's an important info everybody is missing.

I don't have an infrared thermometer to check the temps but they seems to be low. Memory and VRM are cooled by stock plate and blower. Also, lower GPU temp means cooler PCB and cooler PCB means cooler memory and VRM :) EVGA Hybrid cooler improved my memory overclocking so I assume their temperature is lower than before. I modified the bios to speed up the blower a little bit but I don't thinks it is really required.

BTW EVGA fans provided with Hybrid Watercooler are really loud at stock voltage (12V). I connected them to my case fan controller. They are very quiet at 5V and still acceptable at 7V.

Hey

Memory and vrm are cooled by stock plate ? I don't understand that. Did you keep the stock shroud and have been able to fit the hybrid cooler or the hybrid cooler's heatsink sits on vrm / memory perfectly (which i doubt since it's not a 980). Care to explain? I really am on the verge of making the jump and you my friend are giving me some juicy information ;)

Hey MJS,

I'm stupid, i thought for the 980hybrid cooler to work you had to remove everything on the pcb like if you installed a EK waterblock. Seeing the titan x naked without the shroud, i can see that the gpu heatsink can be taken apart WITHOUT the rest of the heatsinks and stock fans, is that correct ?

Thanks

Max

Yes, you can check the installation guide here:

That's why they called it "hybrid" ;)

I have GTX980 but it is already confirmed hybrid cooler for 980 is compatible with Titan X.

Hey

I have a couple more questions,

1. Where did you plug your pump header.
2. Can the radiator accomodate push/pull configs (has mounting holes on both sides)
3. Is the pump running 100% no matter what ?

1. It should be connected to the card itself but for testing purposes I plugged it into the motherboard header via special adapter cable.
2. Yes.
3. Yes, at least by default (see section 1 and my post #18)
