Hello. I just tested Watch Dogs on Gtx 980 with 4GB VRAM on ultra details 1920x1080 + Txaa 2x ( + ultra textures ) and its very stuttering while driving fast. On my previous card Gtx 780 Ti with 3gb VRAM games was stutter badly and more , but why its stutter with 4gb vram?

Because the game was made to use the next gen consoles' 8gb of unified memory... When ported over to PC, apparently they couldn't fix this issue so the only fix is to lower textures to either high or medium. Everything else is fine to keep at max. Though, I'm not that mad that it happened to this game, but this better not be the beginning of a trend with future ports or they will get a huge uproar from pc gamers.

It could just be poor optimization and programming on the developer's part. Even on my SLI GTX Titans I had stuttering and framerate drops when driving around, but that might have been because I was at 5760x1080, although with no MSAA. I did check my monitoring software afterwards and it was at around 5GB VRAM usage, so its not like it was hitting the memory ceiling.

Crazy that a 500 dollar plus card has problems playing a game that was dumbed down for a consol. I remember when PC games were ported to consols. I really wish we would get those days back.

Do you have the latest patch? I know that the recent patches improved the game smoothness.

Really, Mordor runs amazing on Ultra with my 980. One of the best "ports" in a long time IMO. And yes its capping out my 4g of VRAM, but NO lag spikes. When they said you needed, 6G i think they were being overly cautious

Unfortunately i can't agree on the shadow of mordor point. I'm running max settings and High textures on 2x gtx 770 2gb cards and staying at the 100fps frame cap at all times,
except it drops to 80fps on certain cutscenes. So i'm actually running settings that technically i'm not supposed to be able to? But yeah, watch dogs is a piece of crap.

Stuttering issues in Watch Dogs are related to the texture load pipeline.

There are several different reported fixes out there. Here are a few of them:

  • Get Lunayah's texture mods. These improve both visual quality and performance. For advanced users only. Requires reading lots of documentation.
  • Disable VSYNC in game. Enable Adaptive VSYNC in driver settings.
  • Disable or lower Antialiasing settings.
  • Set Max Buffered Frames to 1 or 2
  • Create a Shortcut to launch the game and add the following to the "Target" line:  -disablepagefilecheck -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=4
  • SLI Users (including GTX 690 and other dual-GPU cards): Disable SLI (or disable "multi-core" in NVIDIA settings for multi-core cards)
  • SLI Users who want to keep SLI enabled: Disable Anti-aliasing in-game. In NVIDIA Control Panel:
    • "Manage 3D Settings" > "Watch Dogs" > Antialiasing - Mode > Enhance Application Setting
    • "Manage 3D Settings" > "Watch Dogs" > Antialiasing - Setting > One of the SLI options
    • "Manage 3D Settings" > "Watch Dogs" > Antialiasing - Transparency > One of the SLI options
Hope those help.

Good luck!

man this game sounds like a technical disaster.....it's as if, they want you to buy a console version instead......then you realize that the game itself isnt any fun.

I had dual 880m's with 8Gb Vram each and even at 60fps the game still stuttered and used up to 5.5Gb Vram.
