Hi,

I am looking to "upgrade" my two GTX 780Ti SC cards to the GTX 980 (04G-P4-2980-KR). When I checked on Friday, this was possible.

However, now I see the only 980 I can step up to is with the ACX 2.0 cooler (04G-P4-2981-KR).  Unfortunately, this does not work for my setup.

Will the reference card become available again through the Step-Up Program? When I called EVGA.com sales support on Friday, they told me that they typically only ever offer reference cards through the Step-Up Program. If I had known the program would change after two days I would already be in the queue.

Thought I would try asking on the forum before calling EVGA customer support.

Thanks,
Mike

The reference card 2980-KR was the only 980 available on Friday and it was the one I had originally chosen to step-up to.  I see now they've completely removed it and added the ACX cooler instead. Not sure why they did this but it doesn't matter to me but I can see that some people have a style/design preference. There was another thread under the 900 series subsection where a person has the same concern.  Perhaps EVGA will comment as to why they've switched.

I guess for me my question will be will my step-up still be the reference version or will it be the ACX?

Thanks for commenting and for validating that it was the 2980-KR that was available on Friday for Step-Up.

I hope they do comment, and I also hope they will permit both in the program, especially since they are the same price.  One of the reasons I purchased from EVGA was so that I could use their Step Up Program when the 980 was released.

well my concern is the thread popping up and people reporting issues with the ACX 2.0 cooler where the heatsink isn't hitting the processor.

that particular "issue" (wasn't really one IMO as it worked and cooled fine ) was the ACX version 1 ,the current  cards are the newer ACX 2.0 as stated by description

it would be nice if they at least add the SC ACX 2.0 instead of the most basic version.

There is literally no difference aside from a small bump in clock... you can do that on a base card easily.
