There's a Primegrid World Animal Day challenge running from Oct 4th to Oct 9th which should be fun.  This uses The Riesel Problem (LLR) app.

 http://primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=5864

However, I'd like to use theSkynet POGS Ultimate Team Challenge as the official POTM (thanks for pointing this one out, Orange).

Feel free to help out in either contest if you like!

Cheers -

    Fantastic, two really good pick's.
I couldn't help myself announce this over at our alliance page.
We will try to call out some of the heavy team's over there.
During Last POTM, we was ranked as No.1 in RAC, so this might be great fun.
Remember, when this challenge go off, we all start at Zero.
We are now at 9th place in RAC, with the Cows on 7th, and the Knights on 11th.
Could be fun to do some Titan butt clashing .
Also, I might announce this Challenge in the ongoing challenge page, urging all participants notify their team captains to sign up.

    Thank you Planetclown

    Can we get a linky?

As for PrimeGrid, I ran 4 of those TRP (LLR) a few days ago and they take a while. 8-10 hours-ish. Still haven't gotten any credits on them. Check that, I now see 5k points. Not sure if that's for 1,2,3 or 4

Looking forward to both projects in Oct. Happy crunching everyone!

    All-righty then.

I took a quick look a round to see about bunkering. (Encouraged, allowed or not allowed). Not much there yet.

POGS doesn't mention this, so basically it's up to each and one but according to earlier team discussions, I believe our approach on bunkering is generally a no go.
If we were challenged by huge teams, we could stick our heads together and cook up an evil plan on how to surprise them the first couple of days, but in this one, I'm pretty confident our efforts will be more than noticeable.
Last time we had a POTM in POGS, we ruled all POGS and jumped in as NO. 1 RAC team, and that was only an "Invite Only" internal member challenge.
I hope members of different teams will call for reinforcements during this challenge.
Could be interesting if some of the lurking big cannons woke up

Nice!  Always up for a PG Challenge and excited to get more POGS work done.

I'm really liking the POTM.  It helps me focus on projects, sometimes I get lost in how many different projects I have at my disposal.

I would normally encourage my team to join, but we have been more focused on DC-Vault positioning lately. However, with most of the easy points attained we will most likely start bouncing around again. I will be hitting POGS a little this month because I'm <100k away from my 1 million point goal. Then I will be switching to Cosmology to finish that one. I'm also a little biffed about the way POGS is wasting resources by dragging their feet on the optimized apps. Some over there are justifying running the slow code due to lack of work. I find that as selfish since one of our team mates was working with them on optimized CPU apps back in April and little has trickled back since. He also worked on the GPU code too. It is very disappointing when the resources are available from outside sources but the scientists don't put effort in effective communication. So, until the apps are finished my contribution stops at my goal.

I agree with your discouragement on the slow roll-out of the optimized CPU apps.  Hopefully the admins will be able to verify it returns valid results and gets it into production soon.  I'll still contribute in the meantime, but want my limited resources to be as efficient as possible no matter which project I run.

Primegrid's World Animal Day challenge starts in about 20 hours (Sat. 2pm Eastern US).  The Riesel Problem LLR is the app for the 5 day challenge, and is CPU only.  Hyperthreading doesn't improve total throughput for those with Intels.  Estimated times for completion are 6-12 hours per task.

I haven't figured it out yet... I need to redo the 4P for WCG and BOINC projects.  I've been horribly lazy.

For the stat junkies, in the overall PG challenge series this year, we are sitting in 6th place with 7418.75 points.  Aggie the Pew is in 5th with 7436.75 points and the Ukraine is 7th with 7409.50.  Up for grabs in this five day challenge are 645 points for 5th, 622.5 for 6th and 600 for 7th.  The three of us have finished in the current order the last two challenges.

2 2600k's and 1 2500k. I upgraded 1 26k ram to 2133 so that should help. Got 'em all blown out and dust free the other day so ready to go. Let's make the rats our target!

    thanks for the update geos.

World Animal Day challenge we came in 5th.

The POGs challenge goes until the end-of-month.  We're currently in the lead, but we need to keep an eye on some worthy competitors.

We solidified our 6th place overall by finishing a couple of places ahead of Ukraine.  The rats finished 4th in this challenge about 2.2 million ahead of us so will pad their lead a bit for fifth overall.

The last challenge is the PPS Sieve and is a GPU Project.  Only three days though but we should do well there.  Next up is the 5 day 321 LLR and then a 1 day SGS LLR before the sieve.
