I've mostly completed my new build - http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1664183- and I'm shopping for a replacement for my GTX 260.  I have 3x Dell UltraSharp 24" monitors I hope to run in a triple screen config.

Should I do nVidia or AMD?  Should I run portrait or landscape (the Ultrasharps have a built-in portrait mode)?  Any advice or thoughts I need to have but dont know about?

Both NVIDIA and AMD will work just fine. You'll get a lot of NVIDIA bias here. Just go with whatever hardware the drivers you feel used to. I flip between portrait and landscape all the time. No need to chose between them.

I have been running 3 - UltraSharp U2410 24" 1920x1200's for several years now.  I just switched to NVIDIA (2 - Classified EVGA 680's SLI) from AMD (Sapphire HD5970 2GB GDDR5 PCIE (OC Edition)) a couple weeks ago so I have way more experience with AMD at the moment.

    1) In truth both have a few minor glitches occasionally.   Both work well.  Software is similar in functionality.  AMD is a little more flexible with "mix and match monitors" and more monitors (six).    However, with your monitors hook-up will be equally easy.  EVGA is a great company to deal with for customer service and I general have liked NVidia drivers better over the years.  I am glad to be back on the "green team" for a while.

    2) As Brad said you can switch orientation any time so that will not be problem with identical monitors. I normally stay in landscape.  They extend corner-to-corner on my desk with the 2 end monitors angled in to fill out the field of view.

The 24" monitors are a beautiful thing.  Great for windows desktop and spacing out open programs and work flow.  Great for gaming.  Regardless of which company you go with you will wonder why you did not do it sooner.

How much VRAM should I be looking for in a single card (I dont have enough room to do SLI/XFire)?

If I did the AMD route, which card would be a good fit - 6000 or 7000 series?
If I did the nVidia route, would a 670 suffice or would a 680 be more fitting?

    Thank you,

At 5760x1080 you should be OK with 2GB of VRAM in most games. As for which cards you should get. I would recommend getting either a HD7970 or a GTX680. Either of those should give you enough power to push your resolution in multi monitor. Or you can look for a 2nd hand HD6990 or GTX590.

Yeah, I will push a bit further and say you should go current gen if you can afford it.  Especially with Nvidia.  I wouldn't touch a 590 with a ten foot pole, but the 6990 isn't a bad option.  My pick is 680 or 7970.

Thank you guys.  Knowledgeable as always, Crap.

For the record, the UltraSharps are 1200px, not 1080
