I just wanted to let everyone know that I was having a freezing problem with itunes and my iphone 3g. Since I was able to sync at work with another PC I ignored the problem for a long time.

I haven't updated the BIOs for over 6 months and I decided to go ahead and do it.

Now the freezing problems are gone and I can sync again.

I just wanted to leave this post here in case anyone else had the same issue.

Hey, can someone please explain what this freezing is? Because I am having problems with my iPhone not being detected in iTunes, no matter what version.  What happens, is that when I plug in the iphone, itunes seems to be freezing for like 60 seconds, or maybe more, then it works fine, but no iphone detected.  Windows 7 x64 sees my iphone just fine.  iTunes diagnostics does not see my iphone either.

I have tried everything I could think of, or fixes I found around the web, nothing helped.  I even did a fresh win7 install with just itunes installed, didnt work.  My iphone is being detected perfectly by every other computer I tried at work, or at home, just mine.  I was hoping for bios 74 to work for me, but didnt. :(

PS: iphone does get detected after I try to plug wait 30 secs, unplug, then again, plug, wait, unplug, etc. and after 30 tries, it finaly gets detected.  Do the math, pain in the A.

    my system specs:

    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
    EVGA X58 SLI bios 74
    Intel i7 930 stock
    CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
    EVGA GTX 470 SuperClocked+
    CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-850HX 850W

I have a similar problem with iTunes, I guess I'll go update and see if it fixes it for me.

Edit: Update went fine, but it didn't fix my problem. My iTunes still hardlocks if I start it up with my iPhone 3G plugged in.

haloguy123, what exactly are your symptoms? Very similar to mine, or a bit different?

I'd say a bit different, but there are some similarities. If I start up iTunes while having my iPhone plugged in, iTunes will simply not respond to anything I do so I'm forced to end it by using task-manager. To get it to work I have to unplug my iPhone, start up iTunes, then replug in my iPhone and it detects it and works perfectly fine. It's insanely annoying and has been happening for a couple of months now =/.

well, same here, if I plug in the iphone, itunes freezes for a min, but during that min, if I unplug the iphone, itunes responds back.  Question is, does your itunes detect your iphone everytime, if you have itunes started first?

If I start up iTunes without my iPhone plugged in it detects it perfectly every time. I'm able to sync, listen to music and use normally.

I don't know how long its been, but sometime after the 80 series updates this problem returned. I had the PC down a while to rebuild/stabilize the new OC and after I re installed, Itunes freezes roughly 14/15 times as soon as my iPhone 4 is plugged in to my x58 Classified system running Windows 7 x64. Unplugging it immediately unfreezes itunes.

Running it in compatibility mode for either Windows Vista or even Win7 (pre SP1) semi fixes it, letting it sync roughly 7/10 times. But that's just a bad workaround. I suspected it was an issue with SP1, but ive re installed on spare HD's and there is the same issue on completely unupdated installs. It seems to work fine right up untill a AV program is installed then it locks, uninstall and it works. Dont know why that would effect it, but its not the software as ive tested it with MS Security essentials, Nod32 and Kaspersky, all with the same result. Trend Micro Titanium worked, but it isn't as comprehensive of an AV, probably doesn't actively scan the USB ports the same way if at all.

This was something that use to happen Very rarley, once in a blue moon, but now it is all the time.

If I try it on my 775 system, all works fine. Never would of guessed it, but it really has to be the board, or atleast its a part of it.

If it helps, I've also tested it on a USB3 add in card, same result. so its not just the onboard USB. I've also wiped the phone to factory and it still occurs. I've seen many posts on this issue in the past on these forums, most recommend re installing itunes, but I cant see that helping as i have had the same 100% repeatable result on multiple fresh installs.

I found that using the USB ports on the back of the mobo solved my issue with my ipad and iphone freezing. Another huge improvement was installing the Asus AI Charger.  http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/ai_charger/
This nice little app bumps the voltage to the USB ports.  It is not Asus mobo specific.  It solves many charging and connectivity  issues.
