Just installed two brand new GTX 580 cards and had issues getting the Nvidia control panel to show the SLI settings. I managed to finally get it to be detected every time I reboot. But now for some reason every time I boot up my PC My display drivers stop working. Device Manager says under both my Graphics cards: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" I have to shut off the SLI in order to shut down the PC so on reboot I don't get the GPU drivers shut down by windows. This is been happening since I installed this SLI system a few days ago. Never had an issue with one card GTX 580, GTX 560 and GTX 295. Anyone out there in computer land have an issue like this? Event viewer during shutdown and bootup: This appears to be shutdown: Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. Welcome to the fourms The "WUDFRd/slideshow" error is releated to installing a driver without proper Admin rights and/or a driver load being rejected. Since its showing both "slideshow0" and "slideshow1" its a good bet its your display drivers for SLI. QUESTION: what voltage changes did you make in BIOS for your second 580? What was the exact steps you took and settings for installing the driver? What videocard were you using before the 580's install? I would NOT use a latest/beta drivers for DUAL 580's. I would suggest a "custom" "clean" install of 266.58 with only the display driver and PhysX -->The "performance features" error is shown when Speedstep is turned off in BIOS (it is not an issue and can be ignored) Please post more details on your computers parts and config, including memory settings info A few minor changes in BIOS A proper driver install Should fix you right up

Did not make any changes to any of the GTX 580 cards in the bios with respect to voltage. I had a single 580 card in there. But these two are brand new with the serial #'s one digit apart. I did do the custom "clean" install for 275.33

Sounds like a power issue. That Corsair unit you have, is it the one with the two 500w units inside of it? Make sure your not overloading one of the rails. I've seen quite a few people having video card issues with that unit, especially older ones. Replaced it and all was good.

Yep that's the psu I'm referring to. Check your rail distribution.

The HX1000 is a solid PSU, but as kram36 stated, it is actually two 500W units in one. It has two +12v rails, so the load on each must be balanced. Myself, I would have gone for the AX1200 with two 580's in SLI.

Tried the last 4 drivers and makes no difference. Power supply is just fine. I have the hard wired to one GPU and one modular to the other GPU. This issue with the drivers being shut down by windows is not the PSU in MHO.

☄ Helpful
One other thing it could be. It's been awhile since this was an issue, but the Microsoft driver update for the network card on the EVGA X58 boards were causing the Code 43 issue with SLi. Go into the device manager and to the properties of the network card. Click the driver tab and then click roll back driver button if it's not grayed out.

I should mention that the problem came back!! However I tracked it down to the two external hard drives that I connected to my PC. I must unplug the USB on bootup otherwise it will disable the drivers. Boy, why is SLI so sensitive?? Rick

The "WUDFRd/slideshow" error is releated to installing a driver without proper Admin rights and/or a driver load being rejected. Since its showing both "slideshow0" and "slideshow1" its a good bet its your display drivers for SLI. Completely, and utterly FALSE. Please don't just pull random karp from your underpants and post it just because it sounds "smart". the Windows Driver Framework - Usermode driver framework has nothing to do with the display drivers. The SideShow errors refer to a device that is not sideshow compatible or not configured correctly to run on the SideShow framework (a keyboard with a built in LCD panel for instance). Nor does it have anything to do with administrative operations. A User-mode driver does not require admin permission to operate because it operates at the user-level and not at the Kernel Level(which the display driver does).
