evga980gtx screen goes dark with horizontal lines

As above I just made a new gaming rig and the graphics card was the last thing I upgraded. Was using evga 580 gtx in my new machine and all was fine. Put new card in and after 5 min of game play screen goes dark with scrolling horizontal lines, I exit the game but continues to do it on desktop. I read that the fans don't kick in until temps reach 60c could this have something to do with it? Thanks

Intel core i7 5820k
asus x99
Corsair vengeance 16gb 2600mhz
evga 980gtx super clocked acx 2.0

ps I have uninstalled old driver and installed 344.75. Tried a different hdmi cable. And also formated and fresh install of windows 7

    Try driver 344.16 and most importantly use DVI dont use HDMI

    There the same digital wise except DVI doesnt carry audio, DVI is the best tried and true output method for a PC in my opinion.

    Using precision x run the fan to keep it cool and seems to be working so far
