PC freeze, driver error, blue screen = Sounds like the card went bad..Probably solder cracking.

Take apart card..Clean off all dirt..Bake only PCB in center of oven like this..195C for 10 minutes..**Important to bake with GPU chip up, not down**..Put back together..Try it and hope it is good now.

    That's good

Solder cracking is not uncommon in older cards..Baking reflows any cracks that might exist back together again..Hope it will be OK for a long time now.

The maximum GPU temperature for a GTX 580 is 97C and should work OK up to that temperature, but anything over 80C during gaming is getting a little hot and adds thermal stress..I would not use Furmark, read this..You could use EVGA OC Scanner X, or benchmarks like 3DMark or Unigine Valley for testing..You should also use EVGA PrecisionX or MSI Afterburner and make an aggressive custom fan curve to make the fan run faster to help keep the card running cooler..Get PrecisionX and OC Scanner here.

Do not use thermal paste/compound as an alternative to thermal pads..That will cause overheating of the VRAM and VREG and could cause damage..Use only thermal pads you can buy online or at some PC repair shops..EVGA cards use 0.5mm thickness..I would not use the card until you get some.

Hey Bob I have to thank you as well. I have been fighting a 580 problem card for a couple months now. It wouldn't do anything but crash once NVidia drivers were loaded but would work up till then with generic windows drivers. I even talked back and forth with evga tech support...couldn't get it fixed and I wasn't about to send it in for 65 an hour and it not being under warranty even after. Once I saw your answer to this post I remembered that I had baked a card before and it worked. I figured what the hell and holy crap it worked like a champ. 385 for 10 mins but last 3 of the 10 I cracked the door to the oven...turned off the oven and let it sit in there for 3 more mins with the door open...took it out and let it cool to room temp...bout 10-15 mins...put it all back together and I am up and running like it is new.

    Thanks again.
