Id like to see a better performer from Atom. My wifes Netbook is almost too painfull for me to even use. Id love too have a little speedy netbook, I dont like tablets......

Even my oldest Atom 1.6GHz single core netbook runs plenty fast with Linux.

You may want to consider installing Lubuntu on that netbook. There should be a noticeable improvement in performance.

i thought it was the 4800 rpm power saving hdd that made mine to sluggish.

My small server has a 2.2ghz atom 330 in it. It runs windows 7 ultimate, hosts my back ups, minecraft and teamspeak 3 server. It runs nvidia software RAID 1. Runs fine, I can even browse the internet just fine while all of this is going on. All that for less than 40 some odd watts. I know its a bit different than a netbook but Atom isn't necessarily crap.

Also the atom from the article is just a research project but it looks to me this technology is aimed more at the smart phone/tablet market. Who knows if this will make it into netbooks.
