i love how everyone knows whats happening on EVGA's insides.....*sigh* lots of hate recently

whats so special about this ROM anyway? it cant possibly be critical to the stability of a system so i dont see what all the fuss is about, does it contain bug fixes? performance boosts?

seems like alot of people are freaking out to the extreme, instead of threatening and condemning EVGA about not fixing something....how about trying to get the attention of the CEO or someone similar

It's a matter of principals.... how are other vendors not experiencing the issue and better supporting their products when EVGA isn't? Not to mention their products often are cheaper to boot. its a slap in the face.

Emperor, current RAID ROM is completely outdated when it comes to SSD RAID setups. I have invested ~600 euros in  SSD RAID and was experiencing a lot of performance and stability issues.
Stability issues were reflected in random BSODs caused by raid timeouts and complete system freeze when multiple massive copies were performed on RAID stripe.
Performance is ~25-30% higher with latest RAID ROM than the one we HAD to use due to EVGA unfair treatment.
So, you ask what is the reason why I'm so upset ?
I have shelled additional $170 for LSI RAID controller which does NOT work with EVGA mobo. I'v been told it is due to EVGA BIOS problems. However being loyal EVGA customer full of faith in EVGA I have thrown LSI back convinced that EVGA is not the problem.
At the end of the day user DEJANH showed EVGA BIOS Engineers how to upgrade RAID ROM.
Even this - not so fresh, RAID ROM made my stability issues go away and I gained ~15% performance increase.

So, I ask you now, do you still think we do not have reason to be upset and anger ?

What so special? Easy; better compatibility with newer SSD's, currently I am having 4 SSD's, which I purchased about a month ago and they are non-OCZ and I cannot even get them working with the current Intel RAID ROM. That's my point. I purchased 4x Mach Xtreme Technology DS Series 2,5 Zoll SATA II SSD - 160GB (over 1000 Euro's) and noticed it wasn't supported with the current Intel RAID ROM. You can probably understand my frustration and the fact I am very mad about this.

I tried the SSD's with my friends Gigabyte motherboard (updated Intel RAID ROM) and they worked without problems. Currently I am still using my 2x OCZ Vertex II drives, which my friend also has in his Gigabyte rig. Funny thing is, his performance is about 22 - 28% higher (=faster). Bah...

I just found a great example that X58 is still NOT EOL (End-Of-Life): http://gigabytedaily.blogspot.com/2011/02/x58a-oc-features-in-detail.html

Though EVGA gives us the impression that X58 is considered to be EOL.

alright, thanks for clearing that up for me, i really had no idea what it was for :)

has anyone tried contacting EVGA's CEO or product managers? i think its andrew and joe respectively. maybe a well worded, little bit of anger message will get their attention. sorry if its been mentioned before, just trying to help out a little.

Well, my issue is an simple and an old one. Plug in an USB drive or your iPhone to charge or sync and you system locks up. This issue has been around for a while. Not being able to just restart your system, but having to shut down at the power supply to get it boot and see your motherboard or mouse.  Don't have all the time, but it happens at the wrong time. Add in the double pump and having to clear CMOS when you have a bad overclock. It is old and tiring when other mother boards don't have these issues and you paid for the best of the best.

Grab a Gigabyte x58A-UD5 and up, and make use of the On/Off charge on the USB ports. You can get a full 1amp charge rate from your iDevice even when the system is completely powered down, plus it has what they call "USB 3x power" which in their words supplies more USB power, and better regulated power than other boards.
