If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

There is no such thing as "free". The closest thing is having SOME free services in the entertainment centers... But it won't always be 100% free. I'd say the Roku 3 is the best thing out right now. $95 I'd get that instead.

I assume you mean XBMC, the free media center application/OS? If so, I run it myself on my HTPC, and it's a fantastic little program. I'm not sure if you realize this however, but you provide your own content with XBMC (if you're not going to use plugins, of course). All it does is catalog and tag your media for you.

If you already have your own content server and want to organize, catalog, tag it and watch it remotely, XBMC makes a fantastic front end.

Awhile back I made a raspberry pi into an xbmc player linked wirelessly to my desktop to stream my movies and tv shows using raspbmc.
    it was a fun project.

Have been using XBMC for a couple of years. Very light and cuztomizable software, great plugins.
Have been using it with PC built in Antec Fusion Remote Black case, very comfortable to control the PC via remote. iMON VFD screen is very slightly customizable, but it's not XBMC's problem, of course.
