I am trying to figure out what wire goes to my remote amp. It is a Sony head unit and their site says white/blue wire but I don't have that. This is what the interwebz pulls up on my jeep as far as wiring...

1992 Jeep Cherokee Car Radio Stereo Audio Wiring Diagram
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red/White
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Violet/White
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Blue/Red
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Red/Black
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger: Violet/Orange
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Gray
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Red
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Red
Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Gray/White
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/White
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Black
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown

So would I use the Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Violet/White?

I heard people running a wire directly to the battery and then having the remote amp wire with a switch... I really don't want to flip a switch every time I am done. Everything else is hooked up and works. For now I am running the battery wire and speaker wire outside of the jeep to make sure it works before I tackle the routing mess. Any help would be appreciated, I haven't done this stuff in years.

the blue/white wire would be ONLY on the radio not part of your car's wiring

The remote wire is the wire that turns on and off with the ignition/accessory switch.  Its probably your Violet/White wire but make sure with a multimeter by setting it to DC and connecting it black lead to ground, red lead to violt/white.  Turn the ignition switch to make sure that when the ignition/accessory is on that the wire has 12volts and when you turn the ignition off, the wire is dead.

The remote wire is just the wire that turns your radio on and off standby, it (the radio) always has power through the red 12v wire but if the ignition is off, or not on accessory, it will not turn on.  Same thing goes for your amp, you dont want the amp running 24/7 so it has a standby mode that is controlled by the remote wire.
+12v=amp/radio on
0v=amp/radio off and in standby

THANK YOU!!! Can I unplug the harness from the back of the radio and jam the multi meter lead into the pin or does the radio need to be hooked up and strip the wire for my testing? I have an awesome multimeter and I barley know how to use it...

yeah be careful about that :P The first time i did it i hooked my deck up to the door switch wire some how.

So my deck only turned on with the door open. xD
But that was in my bronco. the last owner ripped out the stereo and left the wires in a mess.

don't hook up your amp to the car Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Violet/White wire
hook up the deck as it states in the manual...
on the wiring harness on the back of the radio the will be a blue or a blue/white wire... run that wire directly into the remote terminal on the amp
remember to disconnect your Battery under the hood while you are making all your power connections...

This is what the back of my stereo looks like... It is a Sony CDX-gt320

But the wires are not that color at all. They are colored but looks like "paint splatters" on them as opposed to stripes. I don't know if it is something aftermarket or if that's what the stock cherokee wires look like? There is no blue and white wire back there...

You can use the accessory wire if your amp does not have a remote wire.

The main difference from doing it the right way and this way is that if you turn the car deck off with the car still on the amp will stay on.

EDIT.

Here is the wiring diagram for that deck.

http://www.docs.sony.com/...e/CDXGT120_install.pdf

Your going to want to use the Ant/rem, The blue and white striped wire.

Sonys support site says a white and blue wire according to this...
http://www.docs.sony.com/...e/CDXGT120_install.pdf
Sooooooo, I am going to plug my multi into the Violet/White pin when I get home and see what it reads. If I die, it was nice knowing you all...

EDIT DJCAKE123 beat me to it. I will look at this again and study it. I am a little lost

Use the "remote" wire that comes off the back of the deck harness.  And run it back to the remote terminal on the amp.  End of story.

Make it easy on yourself too, and pick a $10 installation harness for your vehicle.

You need to look at the wire haness that clips into the stereo. As others have said it will not be on your stock jeep harness... it will be from the deck "stereo harness" And it will be a blue wire.

All you should have to do is hook up the harness like normal, and then you will have one blue one coming from the stereo harness. You can test that blue wire with your multimeter.

I will have to look again when I get home. I did remember seeing some electric taped stuff tucked away in the back so I hope it is not all mickey moused. The pins that connect right into the stereo did not have a blue and white though. Maybe there is another set buried back there or something. If not, maybe I will post a picture of what I have when I get home.

Hey, for me, when I wired up my amp in the back of my pickup (crew cab), I tapped into the window lock.  This was nice so that I could kill my amp when people were sitting in the back seat where my sub was located.  Do you have a window lock button by your driver controls (where the power window switch is located)?  If so, it's a nice way to add a remote off and on to the amp.  Otherwise, you can tap into any power wire that comes on with the key as stated before.

I do have some power buttons on the door. That would be a cool idea but just the thought of running wires that far is a very daunting task. I will just pull out my meter and see what I can do. The hot wire to the amp is gonna be a pain enough trying to find a place in the firewall.

+1 on the factory install harness, they are plug and play, you can pick up rca cables that have a remote wire as part of the cable, makes it easier to run all in one loom. the wire your looking for is on the left side of the sony harness, dont hook up 12v direct. The remote wire is low current .3A and is more of a signal than a supply.

I'm only assuming you are putting your amp In the back of the vehicle.  I put mine behind the rear seats in the back, regardless of where you put them, you don't have to run the accessory wire from the firewall.  It's only function is to be an on off source and and you can tap into any 12 volt source controlled by the key.  I used vampire clips and spliced into the wires as they went from the cab to the rear doors and rand the wire under the kickpanel to the amp.  Good luck.

Yeah, the subs will be in the rear. ( two 12" polks in a bandpass box I believe) The wiring nightmare will be the main power wire with the fuse on it as well as the rca from the stereo to the amp in the rear.
I swear, this thing is such a money pit but it's been fun so far. I have a 5.5 inch lift on it and I just dropped a bunch on some rancho 9000 adjustable shocks for the rear. With the turn of 2 knobs, it rides like a Cadillac, at least in the back...
Next thing is a hack and tap for the driveshaft. That's gonna be fun.

I had a jeep in high school.  Mind you it was an 82 CJ7 but I ran my power under the carpet from the firewall off the battery and I had two 15 ich wooffers behind the rear seat in a custom built box.  The whole jeep rattled.   My hearing hasn't been the same since.  You could hear me coming from blocks away.  Be careful on the ears.  You only have two.

I was going to do a custom 10" built inside the little cubby hole cargo space but the two 12s were just sitting there unused and my wife would never let me put anything like that in our suv. . I am not one of those guys that rolls down the window and bumps just for teh looks but I do appreciate some bottom end.

Kind of sounds like my Jeep.  It would rattle the liscense plate.   I hear it now at 40 and really hate it when my office rattles.  I've got a guy who parks in the parking lot and it shakes my whole office.

If your running 2-12's and say a 1200w amp (I don't recall you saying amp size).  Your probably going to want at least one capacitor, to keep the voltage drop (headlights dimming) and stress on your electrical system (alternator and battery) to a minimum.

I have installed a capacitor in every system, over the last 10 years, sometimes just as a precautionary step.  Even if you say your not going to bump, you know your gonna.
Thats when a cap is going to help alot, under high draw times.
