I guess the question would be.... Is EVGA releasing new Z97 boards?

Most companies are releasing new boards... as if a BIOS update would fix the issue?

either way. I am in the market for a ATX board and I am waiting tell 5th gen is released to buy a new CPU and ATX board

I would go ahead and wait for the new boards. Or you can wait until the end of the year and get DDR4 ram. Either way you can never keep up with new technology's!

I imagine most mobo manufacturers will be focusing their efforts on upcoming skylake due for release later this year (e.g. fall, etc)... I would be surprised if anything changed this year with respect to broadwell (e.g. new z97 mobos)... My vote would be by a z97 now or wait for skylake...

I hope EVGA release their new motherboard in different colors but I still preferred black and red style. Just like my EVGA X58 4 Way Sli. <3

    no red... please NO RED!

Just black on black on black....  keep it clean and simple. Don't need my mainboard to be colorful

Black like the EVGA X58 SLI LE? I love it too. I spent hours looking and comparing it with my X58 4 Way Sli but I eventually went with the 4 way sli because I was new and tought that I would be future proof with it. I still have no regrets because its the best till this day.

I am in the same boat but figured the prices would be premium upon release and wouldn't go down for a while and boards like the evga one are $100 cheaper than when they were released now and I don't think the new chip will give me anything extra I need per se so I went ahead and grabbed a z97.

The Z97 boards are compatible with the 5th gen processor's out spring (2015). The new boards (socket 1151) will not be out until the end of the year (2015).

Yeah, the boards are compatible, it's added support in the BIOS that is needed to make sure it works and is stable. They should release an update for Z87 and Z97, but we'll see.

They said the same thing to Z68 owners when Ivy Bridge came out. It's up to the manufacturers to add the BIOS update. The ability is there, the firmware isn't. EVGA most likely won't... Asus/MSI probably will.

    Re: Z97 5th gen CPUs 2015/03/30 09:25:39 (permalink)
I think EVGA will likely release a BIOS update for Z97 boards to support the broadwell processors. For most of the EVGA boards, that is the only real difference between the Z97 and Z87 boards (e.g. broadwell ready capability) so it wouldn't make much sense if they didn't, especially since they have advertised 5th gen CPU supprt... that being said, the real question is whether you even want a broadwell desktop processor in the first place... early rumors seem to suggest that the real savings in broadwell will be on the TDP or thermal efficiency side, rather than on the pure performance... So if you have a z97 Classy or FTW, getting a Devils Canyon processor may still be the best way to go (unless overclocks turn out to be insane on the broadwell side, which is still an unknown)... However, especially for a z97 stinger in a small form factor case, a broadwell chip could do a ton of good.

As for releasing new motherboards I doubt it for now... The only useful addition now would be USB 3.1, and it seems more reasonably to invest more resources in upcoming "Skylake" motherboards for the later half of the year.
