    Re: Z87 BIOS updates 2014/10/12 22:03:22 (permalink)
Question: After updating the BIOS, I set the memory to XMP Profile 1 which defaults at 2133MHz and so I set the freq to 2400MHz b/c that's the max speed of my RAM. When I rebooted into Windows 8, I automatically get a BSOD labeled as "Memory Management". As a result, I reset the memory to 2133MHz and continued without any further problems. What could be the reason for this malfunction when my RAM clearly is capable of 2400MHz? Thanks

What memory kit are you using, and do you have a link for it?  Also, can you verify what voltage and latency are being shown when XMP is used?

I bet your CPU can't handle it. This is atleast my problem. I didn't knew that CPU's and RAM worked together.

O ok, I'll try mine out later tonight and see if it works. I posted my XMP profile settings from BIOS in an earlier post. Can you compare and confirm which settings are similar to yours. Thanks.

I just looked over your settings and the link for the RAM.  Looks like the Latency timings are too tight for 2400, and they are set for 2133.  Try loosening them to 11-13-13-31 and retest at 2400.

Also, you may not be able to hit this, as your memory controller is 1333/1600 default (1333 default with 4 DIMMs and 1600 with 2) and in some cases the memory controller just won't go that high.  My 4930k just WON'T hit 2667 stable, even though my RAM is rated for it.  But try the latency settings first, that might do the trick for you.

Hey I got around to modifying my BIOS settings and I used your screenshots as a template.

    EVGATech_DaveB
I just looked over your settings and the link for the RAM.  Looks like the Latency timings are too tight for 2400, and they are set for 2133.  Try loosening them to 11-13-13-31 and retest at 2400.

After replicating the latency timings you had reccommended alongside with dapgicc's screenshots, I was successfully able to run at 2400MHz. Thanks guys. I guess I'll do away with using XMP profiles for now on.

    Dear Forum Hello again,
with the latest bios 1.09 on my Z87 classy 4sli rig with 4 470GTXs   running in 3sli configuration and the forth
    for phyzics,
it is impossible to enter bios with neither the
F1 / F12 or the Del button, I have to clear cmos to enter bios.
I would appreciate any kind of input to that issue.

Dear Dave we thank you for the 1.09 Bios.
The Bios runs under uefi flowlessly, settings are stored in rom correctly, and finally
gives us all the EVGA Fanatics the chance to enjoy our EVGA hardware.I plan to have the
1.09 stored to bios no.3(my mobo was kepping it for the next gen cpu's 1.09 does the job).

If the F2 button is the solution, i recon 1.09 solved many bugs.I wil start oveclocking my 4770k
to the limits with standard Liquid Cooling and cpu thermal compaount chanched with performance

Dear EVGA Tech,  Dave and Forum ,
I would like to express my appresiation for this
new 1.09 Bios version, the haswell platform creates many issues, but is so much
    very popullar.
Cons. my Z87 Classi 1.09 solved all the major issues, like storing and setting up
bios settings, previews versions did't liked any changies at all.

I would strongly recomend to Forum , the windows Bios Programming, is the
best way of updating Bios, people at Tech Department did an awosome job, since
for some reason is difficult to creat a dependable bootable USB Stick, do be honnest,
I would rather burn a CD

I feel the same way here. I brought that up with Jacob on one of the threads in the forum. I had transitioned from the X58 platform which implemented that method of BIOS update but was surprised to learn that Z87 withdrew that option. However, updating through Windows is somewhat smooth.

From my test's it  is not only smoother, but it is safer.
Burnning a CD requires an fully opperating
Sys with a disk burning programm installed.

From my point of view, to withdrew the windows sut up it would be a
desaster. Since no one will be able to install correctly, BIOS , implitations, or major
    updates.

This might be happening because according to the memory specs of the motherboard, the max freq is 2666MHz.
