Any idea when these new EVGA boards will start coming in stock? Wondering if it's going to be months away like the 1080 cards, or relatively soon (like within next 2 weeks max).

Also looking at what ASUS has to offer - they seem to have a LOT of options, to the point where it's almost too much lol (scroll down the linked page further... MANY boards).

I've had an ASUS Rampage IV Formula in the past and it was a decent board. I realize my Z97 Classy is a solid setup, but I'm thinking of trying the Z270 platform and i7-7700k just because I can, ..also I'm getting a little tired of the extreme censorship drama here and the loss of many knowledgeable members' contributions as a result, hence the consideration of alternatives to EVGA. ASUS support is cr@p, but they have a LOT of users and contributors. Oh wait, 'cr@p' is a banned word here as well. sigh.

I'm thinking about building Z270 system too. So far ASUS Z270 Hero has caught my eye. ASUS new audio software has me interested in it. Let's say you want to stream a game on twitchtv and be on TS3 or discord with some friends, you can select the audio going to OBS to not include voice server audio.  (i believe that is how will work)

I'm still checking out each mfg Z270 motherboards and seeing what other people think about them too.

I want to pick up a 7700K and a classified or FTW Z270.
Still using X79 Dark, and 3930K. Working great, but it looks like I can finally upgrade and see all the new technology improvements.

Yeah I reading about that audio setup, that would be very useful for people who stream and game a lot. Probably not for me though, but nice feature.

I like the TUF Z270 Mark I (appropriate name too, lol). The Strix 270F is not bad, but yeah the Hero looks to be the king there. I noticed many of the boards have WiFi too (not important for me).

Big question is if I want to be one of the guinea pigs for this platform....

X79 Dark is a great board. The earlier X79 series boards were a nightmare, but the Dark kicked butt - I used the same board and CPU as you until I moved to the Z97 Classified.

One of the best platforms ever from EVGA imho, but yeah, it's time to upgrade.

I also read about the Optane memory not being available since all produced so far is for OEMs. Not sure if this feature is that much better than the SSD cache (in real world usage).

Same here. X58 classified with a i7-920. Not going all out again but maybe a Z270 FTW. But not entirely sure I'm going Intel this time

Do I look like a mushroom?.
No, then why do you keep me in the dark?.

LOL, I got reprimanded today because I used the same 4-letter descriptive "c" word, only mine started with an "s". I even used two characters in the middle...oh well. I was caught and will behave accordingly...or until...

As I'm coming from an older system it's a no-brainer for me to upgrade to the Z270. My only consideration is cost and will let time tell.

Bit saddening that the EVGA Z270 FTW K, seems to use the standard Realtek audio(?), rather then the Creative Sound Core3D Quad-Core Audio Processor. I mean ASUS and MSI have normal ATX motherboards that uses their own sound technologies. But EVGA insists on an E-ATX? To even use their Creative Sound? Tch.

And yep I'm vying to upgrade from my P8Z77-V PRO to a Z270 board, but hopefully the audio upgrade wont be nominal.

ASUS and MSI are using latest realtek audio chip (S1220). MSi Z270 M7 has two S1220 audio chips onboard, both companies have custom audio software too. EVGA using older Realtek ALC1150.

Good point. Probably the older one is my experience - the sound was terrible. I've never had much luck with their drivers/software either.

Creative sound is much better ... also price's has dropped.

It probably does sound better than Realtek ALC1150.

    EVGA Z270 FTW K has dropped $10. Classified K is still $299.99
FTW-K shows in stock on evga store but Newegg shows it won't be in stock until mid February.  EVGA store shipping cost will be around $20 for 4-5days shipping.

The reason why EVGA doesn't have the ALC1220 on their boards is most likely because it's currently a limited partner release from Realtek. Look at their website and there's no specs, press releases, or other info on the 1220 codec. It's a ghost product at the moment.

As far as high quality audio codecs on board though how good do you really think they can get? All of them are pretty poop due to the nature of the power supply they're working with.

Creative's codec realistically doesn't improve sound quality at all. The DAC is of almost identical quality to the one in Realtek's codec. About the only real benefit to it is the heavier duty DSP it comes with...

Realtek's 1220 likewise is doubtful to bring any real quality improvements to on-board audio. Keep the hype in check.

If you want good quality audio get a cheap externally powered DAC with some moderately good Sabre DAC/AMP. No matter how good your onboard codec is, it's going to be pretty poop.

I don't know if Realtek restricted S1220 to partners only or if select mfg didn't want to pay more for the latest audio chip. Maybe mfg's wanted to increase profits over giving customers the latest audio chip on the market.

Wish i could find a review site that compares audio chips and software offerings from each mfg. Onboard audio has come a long way in the past 3-5 years.

Motherboard design has come a long way in the past 3-5 years. Audio codec hardware? Not so much. Even on the phone side where there's still at least some innovation most of the changes revolve around lower power consumption, voltage compensation, and adding in high res audio support rather than making chips with better audio qualities. Don't get me wrong, there are still clear product tiers but the top tier codec from today and the top tier codec from 5 years ago aren't that different quality wise.

Proper electrical design for your motherboard's audio circuit is far more important than Realtek vs Creative for sound quality. Firmware features in the DSP? Maybe you can argue the creative one is more feature(/gimmick) rich. In terms of sound quality though, it'll depend more on the board than the codec.
