Hello, to answer the question better we will need to know which Z170 board you are using, what fans/watercooling system and where the fans are plugged into on the board?

We can almost assume its a EVGA board, since the post is in the EVGA forum

Three of the headers can be individually controlled by setting a custom fan curve / "slope"

It's the FTW board. I'm using 5 120mm fractal design R2s. Yea I just looked and they are 1200 rpm with only 40.6 CFM. Maybe I should look at getting a high cfm/ rpm fan? And thanks I was wondering how to do the fan curve. And all the fans are plugged into the board. Is there no fan curve for the SYS1 SYS1 or PWR?

SYS1 SYS2, AUX or PWR = duty mode (fixed rpm) or off

Oh gotcha. Is there a way to combine 2 or 3 of the fans to one? So that they all are on the same rpm speed

You can use fan splitters, just be careful about power draw, as the headers have a cap of 1amp/12volts per header.
What I did for mine was just got a fan controller.  No frills, well made, and has enough to really monitor it in a single bay slot, Lamptron FC5v2, there are many others out there depending on your specific needs.

Yea I thought about doing that. But my case doesn't have any bay slots

You can use the splitters, I have before, just look at the fan for the power draw.

Frankly, I really dislike that about modern cases, no 5.25 bays, so no controllers, no place for my BluRay player (yes I do have those), hotswap bays, or whatnot.

    Check these out
    https://www.amazon.com/Swiftech-8W-PWM-SPL-ST-Way-PWM-Splitter-Sata/dp/B00IF6R4C8
i been using them for years and never had an issue and they are powered by SATA. You can even chain them together to control multiple PWM devices off of one PWM header. (im looking at you x99 classy with only one PWM header, still mad about this)
