Hello All,
I'm new here so please go easy on me. I've been having a hell of a time getting Windows 10 installed on my machine. I don't have an exotic setup, so it's throwing me for a loop why my installs continuously lock up and have data corruption problems. Reinstalling Windows 8.1 or Linux Mint works just fine.
Intel 5820k - stock clocks
16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 DDR4 2400 (4x4) configuration
X99 Micro 1.17 BIOS
Mushkin Reactor 1TB SSD
EVGA Geforce 980 TI
EVGA 750W Gold Power Supply
I can initiate a clean Windows 10 install without a problem, both UEFI or Legacy BIOS, and it will go through the initial file copy and setup process without any issues. Upon the first reboot, all bets are off. I've installed probably 8 or 10 times now and gotten to various points of completion before everything locks up. Sometimes it freezes on the initial boot where it normally says "Setting up devices". Sometimes it locks up when I'm configuring my user account for the first time. A few times I've gotten it completely installed, installed drivers, and then had it lock up after a reboot on the desktop. After a hard shut down and reboot, my BCD config is hosed. The two times I can actually get the machine booted, I notice that disk activity always hovers near 100%, no matter whether chipset drivers are installed or not.
This problem does not persist in Windows 8.1 or Linux Mint. Currently the machine is running Linux Mint and performs as one would expect. No random lock ups. No hitches. Boots in under 10 seconds from a cold shut down, etc. I'm completely at a loss, and I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!
Jake
EDIT: I should also note that I have installed Windows 10 both with and without my network connection attached. I initially ran the Windows 10 update from 8.1 through Windows Update, and was able to login once before the machine crashed and would never again get past the login screen. This process has repeated itself several times now.
