Hello everyone yesterday I made the jump and purchased an X99 Classified board, I know it is an older board but it seems to be a tried and true board and from what I have read a good overclocker.  My questions I have read conflicting information about some of this including on here

Does this board support M.2 NVME boot?

Is there an updated memory list anywhere?  I am looking to run Corsair CMD32GX4M4C3000C15  ( looking on the memory list that can be downloaded from the site quite a few of the part numbers are incorrect especially for G.Skil)

Thanks everyone glad to have joined the Evga Community have 2ea 1080 FTW cards and a 1000 P2 psu figured I would add the MB to the mix.

If you're interested in Corsair memory, they have many models listed on there compatibility list here  >>  http://www.corsair.com/en/memoryfinder

As far as the M.2 NVME boot, I believe it does support this but am not 100% as I have no personal experience using one.

Hello,

Does this board support M.2 NVME boot?

Yes it will support NVME storage and boot drives on M.2 however the M.2 drive must be PCI driven. (no Sata M.2 drives.

There is rarely an issue with memory compatibility on our X99 platform. Just remember that you will be required to overclock you CPU to attain higher memory frequencies.

Just to piggyback on that - 3200MHz RAM on the X99 Classified does NOT require you to OC the BCLK like 2800, 3000, and higher than 3200MHz RAM does.

Thank you big time for the response,  I am new to the x99 platform.  Right now I am running an Z170 setup with an i7 6700k at 4.6.   I think I am going to go with a 2800mhz setup of ram, I am only planning to push a 6850k to 4.4.  Now to talk myself out of 32gig of ram and save some money lol

So you saying 3200 is actually the sweet spot for OC that doesn't require BCLK ocing?

On the X99 Classified board - yes. I've heard reports of the same for other EVGA X99 boards as well, but other manufacturers appear to not be the same.

My own set of 8 sticks of Corsair 2800MHz RAM is currently running perfectly at 3200MHz and 100 BCLK in my X99 Classified. I did have to relax the timings a bit and add a little voltage, but not unexpected.

Yes it is the sweet spot! I am currently running 32gb at 3200 MHz with the bclk of 100 works great.

Err... so I went exactly opposite way. To ensure stability beyond any doubt bought 2400 sticks and replaced 2666. No XMP profiles, no fiddling required - OCing memory is soooo utterly boring and meaningless, but hey if you like it who am I to stop you guys. These are from Avexir's Core series with nice White pulsing LEDs. Planning to get another set at later date just for effect because I don't need 32GB now and I haven't got a clue what for I would require 64.

CPU demanding games can benefit greatly from faster RAM. Moreso for dual channel builds, but there is an improvement for quad channel builds in Fallout 4 and DX11 Rise of the Tomb Raider. There are surely more, but those are the ones that I can speak of with authority.

Thank you everyone have the build going right now spending time bending some PETG and now waiting for my 6850k silly amazon has really gone down hill lately.....

Anyways am I missing something or will the I/O cover not go on if you are running a video card?  I have tried my watercooled 1080 or my friends 980ti.  Pretty disappointing i hate the ugly I/O showing but not sure what I could be missing.

Got the build done last night, powered and worked good!

Question I have a 6850k looking to OC it to 4.4, is the secondary CPU plug needed? The manual states extreme over locking what is the definition of extreme overclocking? LN2?

Also with the 6pin PCI-E on the bottom of the board is it really needed? I am running 2 1080 FTW in SLI I have read most don't mess with it unless they are running 3-4 SLI. Manual is extremely vague on these.

Now is there any issues with running both? Everything works good, but I want to make sure it has what it needs and if I don't need it will it hurt just running both? I have an EVGA 1000 P2 so I have more than enough just not sure I should run them. I am shocked by the lack of details of the manual

It won't hurt to run both. Just run both.

Secondary CPU power isn't needed unless you're pushing 5.0+ on LN2 or very high voltage.

You could use the PCIe power since you're in SLI.  Usually gives the board more stability.

What GTX said is true. Other application is when you running seti/folding/cryptocurrency farm (technically you can run 6 cards on Classy - one with x4/x16 converter). Even if cards aren't OC extra power supplied to the motherboard is highly recommended to ensure stability (4-6 GPUs working at full blast, even very power efficient, require a lot of power). Basically for normal usage there is no need to plug 2nd 8-pin EPS or 6-pin PEG on the bottom - only if you suspect problems with power delivery e.g. not very high OC + frequent BSOD and such.

Yes Classified manual is really Classified in some areas - but hey that's why forum exists*: have problem - ask. For future reference at least. Manuals are being reworked. Certainly not for Classy as board is now 2 yo, but for future products.

* - unlike a lot of competition which closed forums and moved to anti-social networking for support - I mean really?!

Can you guys tell me can the memory be safely removed without removing the video cards?  I am hard lined watercooled and hate to have to drain the loop to change memory?  It looks close but I am not sure I could possibly damage the socket by trying.

Of course!  Everything can be removed and changed/replaced/upgraded as long as the PC is off.    Just make sure to ground yourself before you do anything.
