Hey Guys,
I have had my RIVE for a few years now and am getting an upgrade bug.  What would be the best upgrade path to choose?

I'd say wait for Skylake E CPUs to arrive. Might work with x99

EVGA is barely mentioned in X99 reviews and only the Classified. Can't believe Asrock is rated much higher.

    I would wait for Skylake-E
I'm still using an EVGA Dark with a 3930K @ 4.5Ghz. It still cuts through everything like butter. I won't upgrade until I see what Skylake-E can do.
The X99 platform is good if you are still on the X58. But X79 to X99 is barely an upgrade. By the time Skylake-E comes out, Nvidia should have GTX X100 series or whatever they will call after the 900 series.
DDR4 will also be cheaper by then and offer lower latency timings. M2 SSD should also come down in price a bit. All in all, it will be worth the wait.
I went from X58 with an i7 920 to what I have now, and the leap was massive.
At the end of the day, its up to you. Want to take small steps, or big steps. I like big steps. I want my upgrade to feel like it got me more than 10% performance difference. Changing out a platform for anything under 10% isn't worth the cost.

Thanks!  Lots of info I was looking for.  Also gave me some research info.  I will wait.  I also went from the x58 with a 920 to this what I have now.
    Thanks again

    I agree.
The rate at which chipsets and CPU's drop these days is a trickle. GPU's have been moving steadily forward. Looking forward to Pascal. As for now I don't see anything in the near feature for X79 users.

I have also been running my Sandy at 4.75G 24/7 for months (as long as when I switched from the FTW to the Dark) and it chews through anything I throw at it. I've seen fully unlocked chips that will get me a little higher, but way too much money for the small gains. Gonna be a while before I upgrade.

Your only true upgrade path is a X99 system. I loved my RIVE, so I tried ASUS for X99, went through 4 of their boards and they were all junk. I ended up getting a EVGA X99 Classified and it has me tickled pink as the RIVE did. Everything works as it should and rock solid oc's. Love this board and can't think of another board I would pick over the X99 Classified.
