I agree with iamSneaKy. I wouldn't be happy either, your board has expensive taste.

I don't know what is wrong with your set-up but my 3930K works fine as far as I can tell. I had to re-seat the CPU and actually when I re-seated the CPU I didn't tighten it down as far as I did the first time.

I think it's possible to have several bad boards in a row - reason being it sounded like EVGA was rushing to get the x79 Dark boards out and may have caused some minor issues when putting in the new BIOS chips etc.

I don't know if EVGA will do this but it doesn't hurt to ask. See if they will test your 3930K in their lab to see what the problem is. You wanted a 3930K and it is supposed to work now you spent almost twice as much money for, I'm assuming, no real world gains for you. If I'm wrong about the gains and you see a huge difference not just in benchmarks then have fun.

I've reluctantly paid to upgrade something that should have worked flawlessly from the get go, so hopefully when the Dark gets here it redeems EVGA in my eyes. Either way I will always remember having to pay an extra $180 ($160 board + $20 Shipping) to get a working product but time heals all things.

EVGA X79 working great here - since day one - no need to upgrade to the Dark at this time.

^^^ This but I am up grading to a dark. Only reason is only way I could add # 3 video card on the x79 ftw was ether move PS to top of case or water cool it to. Only thing that was ever wrong with my ftw was the ?????? in manager.
On top of not OCing very well.

That in itself is a huge problem for an Enthusiast Board that was designed FOR overclocking.

Well, looks like the Dark didn't like my 3930! ;) It's loving the 3970, after popping in the new CPU the motherboard fired right up, then I installed it back into the case and kept getting error 67, I pulled the cmos batt , cleared it and she's been purring along ever since.. Much faster start up times then the Asus RIV Extreme - Splash screen of x79 dark, win 8 logo, logged in.. Very fast.. Happy camper now, thanks to the Evga support team for all of the assistance.

What the? .... I tell you, I will be pissed if my 3930K doesn't work in the X79 DARK,
no way I am spending that kind of cash on a 3970.

I'm sure you'll be fine.. ;) I wasn't trying to infer that you would need a 3970 for it to work. It was the only chip my local pc store had and I've always wanted to try one so this board issue provided me with a reason to grab one. As for the 3930, tested it in another board outside the Asus and it worked fine... So I have no clue why it wasn't working in the Dark..

Well certain individuals on this thread seem to think that having multiple bad boards is unconceivable and that my board not working equates to user error so it's good to hear acceptance in that; as EVGA themselves admitted that it is possible and would not be the first time which is why they wanted to test the 3rd board before sending it to me. As for the testing of my 3930, that's actually not a bad idea.. I'd love to send the cpu in to have them verify it on the Dark.

The performance gains are too early to tell at this point but I'll surely be putting it through it's paces over the next days.. I had no intentions on upgrading my CPU just to get my board to work but I was curious to see if a new cpu would fix the issue and for now it has - granted it cost me an ass load but I'll be selling my 3930 to recoup some of the expense. This is my first upper tier chip since 07' when AMD had the FX-60!

If it's found to be pervasive, this will probably result in a BIOS microcode update or something along those lines, I'd imagine.

Boot times seem to be incredibly fast when compared to my Asus board. I had to make some changes in the bios involving the quick boot options but even from a cold boot to a ready to go desktop with all task bar applications i.e. antivirus etc. is resulting in almost 45-55 second difference... I'll begin to push the boards overclocking features next.

I also got the dreaded FF post code on my brand new X79 Dark with an i7 4930k. Got an ongoing RMA for it, I'll be back with an update.

Do the issues in the OP pertain to the Dark edition as well?  Or were they for the previous generation X79 boards?

For the initial EVGA X79 lineup although the X79 DARK is not without it's own problems
from what is here in the forums.

Dare I ask what this post code means?

I've had it once before but it has since disappeared. I'm stuck getting a 64 on boot now accompanied by a very long and loud beep...
