BSOD : Clock_Watchdog_Timeout on Windows 8..

:) thanks

If 193 don't pass, up vcore 1 more tick.  If it does, raise bclk to 197 and up vcore 1 more tick.  If 197 don't pass, up vcore 1 more tick.  Post back your results and I'll look at them tomorrow.  GL bud...

Watch your temps.

worked on 193! :)

bdary it shows 4.2 because in turbo mode it will give him a 21x multi

Yes, that was my 1st thought.  But it doesn't add up to that even with Turbo enabled and then I looked at his latest template & turbo is disabled as I had suggested.  E-leet is reading it correctly, but IBT isn't for whatever reason.

Oh, I see you did 10 runs.  That's pretty stable then at those settings.  How were your core temps?

As far as the 197 Bclk, it's up to you whether or not you want to keep pushing the vcore up until it's stable.  If you decide you want to try, then I suggest upping your QPI PLL to 1.375v and your CPU vcore to 1.40v and see how that goes.  If you don't pass with those settings, up only the vcore then by 1 tick at a time until stable.  If you get to 1.41875v and still don't pass, stop there.  At this point, you can do 5 runs instead of 10.  We'll do 10 when we reach your goal to make sure it's good & stable.

The other way you could do this which could be a little easier to achieve is, set your Bclk at 191 and multi at 21.  This will also give you a net of 4.0ghz OC.  Your ram won't be at 1600mhz, but it'll be close and you won't even see any difference in performance.
If you try this route, leave QPI/PLL at 1.35v and set Vcore at 1.40v and increase vcore 1 tick at a time from there until stable.
Keep me posted bud.

hi bday, I've been upping the VCore up to v1.41875V and at least the BSOD can retrieve the info. I'll try more steps (it is the 3rd step for v1.41875v)

Edit: whea_uncorrectable_error is the exception I got with v1.41875, as well as v1.42500. I'll keep upping..

That's pretty high vcore there and we're not even to 4.0ghz yet.  You may want to consider or at least try my 2nd suggestion posted above with a 191 bclk and a 21 multi.

You're trying for the 197 bclk now, right??

Was about to start 197 with v1.45 for VCore. I'll make 191 with 21 multi, what VCore may I use ? v1.4?

I can't put 21, as it says I have Min of 12 and Max of 20 (remember, I have the i7 920)

Oh, ok.  I wasn't exactly sure how high the multi went up on the 920's.  Ok then, how about this.  Use 191 bclk with 20 multi. but enable turbo.  That gives you a 21 multi then I believe?  And I would start at 1.40v, yes.

100% right, it gives me 191x21 :)
Target CPU frequency shows: 4018 MHZ (191x21)
Target Memory Frequency: 1530 Mhz

So I'll try that right away!

Ok.  I think you may be able to achieve that with a bit less vcore.  But your testing will show for sure...

That's good if it holds at that vcore...I tell you, a 4.0ghz OC is pretty good OC on a 920.  I know some get these "golden" chips that OC pretty easy, but it's still a pretty big OC for a 920.

Do you think it is because it has degraded overtime? I've used OC @ ~3.3 for years (since I had V8), maybe it could degrade?

They do degrade over time, especially with an OC.  But each chip will degrade at a different rate.  Heat though is the biggest cause of degradation.

Re:X58 Still! Need help with OC 2013/06/15 17:37:40 (permalink)
Hehe :) Thanks everyone it's really appreciated. That's why I recommend buying an EVGA MOBO - and now that I bought 2 months ago a EVGA GTX570 - since it will not fail (has not failed since beginning), and the forums are still active even for old mobos. Linus (LinusTechTips) convinced me (for USB 3.0/Sata3) along with you guys (to OC) to stay with my current mobo. Linus said that since SSD Sata 2 to Sata 3 is not a big difference and that USB 3.0 peripherals options are not standardized yet, i'll keep my 920 + EVGA X58 as long as I can :) Thanks again!

My temps were around 75-77, so I don't know if it would be as easier to get more, but still, I'm very fine with that setup, at least for a 920 (Edit: like if I know what is the difference between 920, '30 and '50, but you get the point)  :) I'll put my final card here once I'll restart my comp (SQL Server 2012 takes ages to install)!

If you ever have any further questions or anything, feel free to post back or PM me.  Happy gaming xboxnissan.

Re:X58 Still! Need help with OC 2013/11/28 00:27:45 (permalink)
Update.. Unfortunately, for intensive CPU uses, my PC just either freeze or shut by itself. E.q. doing Premiere Pro rendering or Xilisoft Converting at 1080p crashes my computer. I did the test in the past for 100% load with Prime95 and others, and it managed to live for a full day. Any ideas?

UPDATE:Ran Prime95 for less than a minute before the computer froze. ~75oC in real temp.Possible Cause: Windows 8.1. Every test I did was with Windows 8 and I'm now with 8.1, thanks! If you have an idea, please suggest :)
