Hello, im thinking of modding my x58 mb to accomodate a westmere Xeon x5690.
I been reading abit on the forum and found some success stories but i really wanna make sure on know how to do this before i attempt soldering the mb.

Could anyone help me with this? like how to officially do it in clear concise steps please?

(p.s.: i asked the tech guys at evga and they said they couldnt "recommend" anything about modding, the only thing they can do is to tell me to send the mb there so they mod it for me... but somehow i think with the right info i could pull it off myself)

MB descriptions:
EVGA X58 SLI Classified
Part Number: 141-BL-E760-A1
Rev 1.0
Thanks guys!

These are the pads you need to short for the mod. Use the search bar to save time next time you need information because these pics have already been posted in multiple older threads.

    Hello symbiosis8,

We are happy to accommodate your request for a westemere mod. If you are confident in your ability to do this mod yourself, more power to you

EVGATech_MDecker do you know if the W3680 will work in that board with out the mod?
I hear of people saying it will since it is a single QPI xeon. Basicly the same chip as the 980x
The w3680 CPUs are unlocked by multiplier and BCLK, would be cheaper to just buy one of those for 80-100$ than doing the mod and buying an X56xx CPU.
All my EVGA boards support X56xx on their own FTW3, and Classified3 and all Asus X58 boards support the xeon CPUs.
Wish someone would try it and report on it. The w3680 are great CPUs I have one and it is an easy overclock.
As any CPU and overclocking, some CPUs do better than others. Looking for the Golden CPU in the silicon lotery.

actually if that works, it would be an amazing option and much simpler than modding or sending back my board,

    great question bill!

It is a really great CPU too.
My gut tell me it will work, one person I know said it would but they did not do it their self. I am prone to believe them.
I will not say for sure until I know some one who did it or I do it my self or an EVGA tech comes in here and says "YES"..
If I had that board I would try it myself, but I don't. Flashed to the newest BIOS is a must I would bet, modded or mod not needed.
