Okay so I picked up some cheap tech starting running it and testing and blah blah and all works great except I put the computer into s3 sleep mode (s1 was default in bios so I had to change it of course).  Everything else in the bios is unchanged.  Latest version of bios, latest drivers on everything.   Had windows 7 installed, and it wouldn't come out of sleep mode.  Everything comes on and works and sounds are there but no monitor display.  It flickers once very fast and then nothing.  Can't get it back without doing hard shut down and restart.  Not a huge issue, no, but I'd like to have the ability to use s3 sleep and resume.  I'm hooked up to a Samsung 32" tv via HDMI (free one since I bought a galaxy s7 through Verizon...w00t!).   I don't know if the HDMI has something to do with it, but I also tried a DVI to HDMI adapter which made no difference.  Also tried another monitor with straight DVI to DVI which made no difference (on a monitor I used on another machine that sleeps and resumes fine) , so I don't THINK it's the monitor.  I "upgraded" to windows 10 thinking maybe windows 7 in conjuction with the mobo and the GPU might be the culprit, but to no avail.  Same symptoms, same results.  Any idea here guys?  I've read through tons of google search results on this and tried suggestions, but I've gotten no joy.

are you using a wireless mouse or keyboard ? If so try wired. X58 was always buggy with sleep and usb also. Try changing usb ports for keyboard.

Keyboard and mouse are both wired.  I have tried different ports for both.  System goes to sleep fine.  I can either keyboard or mouse to wake the system and it acts like it's about to work but, no display.

My suggestion is that you go into the sleep settings and don't allow the PCI-E to sleep.

That was a thought I had as well, however cannot find anywhere to disable the PCI-E going to sleep.

I'll tell you how to do this from a Windows 10 PC. Windows 7 should hopefully be somewhat similar.

    1. Open the control panel
    2. Choose hardware and sound
    3. Choose 'change when the computer sleeps'
    4. Click 'Change advanced power settings'
    5. Now you see power options
    6. Scroll down the list and find PCI Express
    7. Click it and there should be a submenu called 'Link State Power Management'
    8. Turn this OFF
    9. Click OK to save

Yes it is the same in windows 10 and windows 7.    Sadly, turning that off didn't help.  :(

Unfortunately there is no fix for this. It is a common issue on X58 boards and there's no longer any BIOS support for the board as it's EOL a while ago. It's an issue with the system re-initializing the GPU on resume from sleep.
