I have been reading some older forum entries about poor performance in configuring a RAID 0 on the red SATA III ports.
I have a 5 disk RAID 5 that has been used for files and data on the SATAII ports, and have had had a single 7200rpm drive for the OS.  I recently came across two Samsung 840 SSD's on an amazing sale and want to configure a RAID 0 on the red ports.  I do not have two black ports open to do the RAID on them, has the problems with the red ports been fixed or at least improved in later BIOS updates? Or am I going to be in for problems or very low performance?

it will work only thing with it is you will not get full potential use of the drives the red ports are Marvell ports and are limited as for the black ports which are Intel and have more resources which in turn give you better performance...I have used both ports for (2 OCZ SSD)  Raid0 and can testify to the performance differences. Hope this helps...

As mentioned, performance can be lower on the Marvell ports.  One of the downsides of the X58 chipset is that SATA III was not native to the chipset, and adding a separate controller doesn't always add additional performance, but it does add additional SATA ports to the board, so you do have the option of using more ports.
