Hi,

I have the X58 Classified E760-A1 rev 1.0 and would like to perform the QPI Mod, I am having trouble locating any guides around on what i need to desolder/re-solder etc. there are plenty about for the E-758, but that has a different layout.

I know it's a bit of an old board, but i feel like the step to 32nm and 6 core would stretch it's life an extra 12-18 months.

If anyone knows i would appreciate any information on this.

Pictures attached of what i suspect might be the one to solder a resistor onto, but i don't know where to remove it from...

I would also like to know if simply jumpering these two pins would be sufficient?

The problem with that mod, as I recall, is that it won't turbo clock on high load for single threaded apps.  Which makes the straight i7-990x a better performing option, because it does do that without any soldering.

I've looked hard at what you're doing, and the benefits just aren't there, besides skating on a cheaper price.  I basically gimps this model board.  Other boards don't have that issue, but ours does.

I was intending to overclock the think to 4.5-4.8ghz and just run it at that speed always. Regardless of that i got a nice stepping x5677 -> 3021B060. Hopefully it will clock well once the mod is done...

That's not a bad price for that processor.  Provided, of course, there's nothing wrong with it.  That would be a nice upgrade from the 920.  I still run an X58 system with a 950 clocked to 4GHz (Rig #1 in my sig).  Still a good gaming rig.

For the Westmere mod you must bridge the two solder pads you circled as well as these ones at the top of the board.

I did this for my E762 and my Westmere CPU's work great, turbo boost is fully functional as well with C-States set to "Auto" in the bios. My X5650 will turbo to 23X multi under single threaded loads just fine as well, though I normally turn this off since it just causes instability when oc'ing.

Do the W series chips need this mod?
