I thought I would start this in a seperate thread so we don't lose site of the CC topic.

Here is my thoughts.
#1 GREAT IDEA. we would be teamed up with other teams from around the world so there would be no reason to re allocate points to another team.
#2 You would still be producing points for your own team, so no reason not to join the contest.

#3 We could get prize donations from all over the world.

#4 Promote a fair and civil contest that only benifits the folding community not a single team

#5 Would just be plain fun!
There is a lot of work involved but we could recruit help from other teams with their understanding it is our contest idea so we will have control. Not that its gotta be an EVGA thing.

I'd rather focus on a worldwide competition and leave the prizes to the individual teams just as is done in the CC.  Worldwide prize distribution would be a logistics nightmare, not to mention the potential for abuse.  I'd rather let the individual teams from which those folders come handle the gifts and qualifying for their own team members.
Plus, while I don't know how others feel, I'd really prefer prizes that I donate go to one of my teammates.

    May I add...

I like the idea of a sig badge like the ones you see in the Crunching world. Just shows you participated.

A lot of teams in the WCG world just participate as a way to keep in connection with their members and draw attention to new ones. Not many talk about winning anything.

Not to mention a lot of them are in memory of or for someone/something....

Good points about the prize issues.

I think we should post in some of the other folding communities to get a feel for the idea.
The hard part about time of year when we're talking about a world wide competition is that it's always summer somewhere.
I think November is a good time

I'll have to agree with Punchy that all teams should hold the prizes in house.  Worldwide is going to be insane to track!

Cripes. I think I'm gonna need a bigger stats system... I have an artificial 255 person max . . . This could push thousands of people.

Yup, time to strap that nerd on and see what I can do to kick things into the next level, I guess.

And, on THAT note, the further out we can push this thing, the happier I'll be!  *laughs*

Now, to seriously strip this crap apart, see what will survive, see what I need to meet higher levels of participation . . .

Count me in... prizes should be kept within teams, as suggested.  The communication for this contest might be a bit cumbersome, but we could have each team rally their own troops and distribute the info/bring back input.  Stats should be centralized.  I vote drougnor, pimp extraordinaire.

@tank, your post at [H] is well done.  No reason to edit.

I posted at OCN but they deleted my thread saying I was trying to recruit on their forum.
Hmmm. I guess inviting them to a contest is recruiting.

yes!!,  you'll have to contact zodac

they have stringent anti-spam measures in place - anyone posting a contest outside of OCN is considered spam
    I got dinged for it

actually devdog or me could do it (pm zodac)...explaining it to them

Man this idea just feels better and better the more I think on it.

I really would like to hear from other teams though. AS not all Country's recognize the "Time zones" like we do. That is a concern of mine.

Next... I think if we did have multiple teams (like 20+) at some point participating, I find it pretty hard to not be a new member magnet as the "Buz" would be infectious. However, I wonder how we get to that point.

    Lastly, I propose this.

    • We have a few "Dry runs" All teams are welcome to participate and offer input as we go as this is about all of us, not just one team or member.
    • However we do NOT launch any of this until we have tried it. This way we can learn what is not known until you are in it (Happens a lot it seems).

Wow I didnt know this thread existed until just now. So, here's a thought: if we can get this started, will this take the place of CC? And Xavier do we still ned to PM Zodac? I can do it now if you want.

Alright for general knowledge purposes, Zodac is no longer team captain for OCN she has retired. Apparently she got married, so congrats to her. But Im in the process of finding out who the new authority in OCN is so they can post the idea. I also talked to Adak over at OCF. He thought it was an interesting idea, and said he would pass it along to his teammates. He's busy with another DC contest so he couldnt help me any further.
