Happy Birthday to WCG! It's been 10 years and they're doing a challenge! Thanks to cuarc001 for keeping an eye out and a quick response from Viper97 we are signed up good to go!

Let's show our support and lay down some power for this special event! (which has a very decent turnout, looks like 50 teams so far!)

Well since the POTM is what it is... meanwhile one doesn't need to do the POTM if one finds more fun doing whatever.  So do what you feel is right.

Well the GPU POTM challenge is done for in 24 hours, so I'd say, fair game for all

The POTM was and always will be voluntary, it does provide the team a focus as some of our team members look at stats closely and try to help the team rank up.  Again it's voluntary.  Nothing wrong with a little extra lovin' for other projects.

SIMAP is POTM for November. POTM November 2014 - Last hurrah for SIMAP!
The Challenge over on GPUGRID is separate as is PrimeGrid Leonids Challenge this month.
It is to bad the WCG only has CPU Projects.
But as Viper97 states above it is all Voluntary.
But for you devlin85 I will swap out my 4P Project SIMAP for WCG and run SIMAP on my 2P starting on the 16th.
    Pending November COTM out come.

Did FightAIDS@home under WCG stop using GPU? And didn't the cancer markers research use GPU?

Always up for challenges, running some WCG now along with GPUGrid, POTM, and others.  Don't feel bad taking cores away from the POTM to run full steam for other events!

HCC - Help Conquer Cancer was the GPU project. It finished over 2 years early due to GPU. (The GPU work only lasted 6 months) No other WCG project has used GPU's and according to WCG none are in the pipeline. Since WCG does not do any of the coding of the apps, the project scientists must be on the up and up. Since most scientists aren't top notch coders and WCG does not release the code to open source, there isn't any likelihood of seeing one ported any time soon.

Somehow I don't think I will remain in the lead.

Yea!, I am about 38. I takes a long time to move up this ladder.
    But I am climbing.

I just mean daily production, when you fire up all your CPUs I think you will have the PPD lead.

I just hit no more WUs, because I am not sure if WUs downloaded before the start date will count or if bunkering is allowed, not that I want to or will I bunker.
I just want to be ready for the start with a fresh DL so they all count.

From what I have read on one of our friends forums, those wu's need validation, and therefor being counted no matter time of download.
Points will count when validated, and all sub projects will also count.
A "Running start" seems to be acceptable.
If anyone should question this "Running Start", I use this as an example, let's say a guy is crunching WCG at daily basis, and he also want's his work to be counted for in the challenge, should he stop crunching a week in advance? Neh, don't think so.
This is exactly the same as with POGS, challenges are set up each month, and the points starts count the minute the challenge is valid. No one wait to down any wu to be within a certain time.
The only project I know of that has the ability to differ on this is PrimeGrid.

I'm going to pass on both of those and stick with SIMAP since they will be around in the future and SIMAP will be gone in a month and a half.

Oh no!!!!! Well I would rather crunch to find a cure than to find a prime number.
They are both CPU based too.

We are already signed up for the WCG and not the primegrid?

It's not necessary to "sign up" for PrimeGrid challenges. Just run the specific project, in this case, 321 Prime Search (llr).

I plan on crunching #'s simply because it's a year long challenge series and would like to improve on last years ranking. That being said, to me it's very important that we on this team not feel pressure to crunch in these challenges and to follow our hearts and do what we want to do as individuals.

I also prefer medical projects to prime number crunching.  My x79 does run PrimeGrid well so I'll keep some threads open and set the 4p up for WCG.

I do too, once I get a prime I'll probably stop all together with em.. but man the pps sieve task produce some fine points! No primes in those though.. just factors.. thanks to that puppy I'm 2nd in the group for primegrid  I'm catching up to some high rollers in the combined list too.. hehe..

I've got 7 pc's running 24/7 totaling 26 cores (22 usable though). 5 usable GPU's (2 GTX 760 SC's, 1 780 SC, 1 650ti, All EVGA of course . And an intel integrated gpu). So way more gpu than cpu power for me.

That use of the word "usable" there twice is a little ominous

well..........if Devlin85 is going off topic - this post may need to be placed in a different thread-
I just got in to crunching, and I have 2 challenges under my belt. It is a lot more interesting (than folding) and there is a good deal of camaraderie among EVGA crunchers.
I have been folding for quite some time, but it is kind of "set it and forget it" <ho hum>
Today I just put 2 android phones and my work pc to WCG, so I will see how that goes. I have two 780 SCs running 24/7 and a 4p under repair.
Being new to crunching, any advice would be greatly appreciated and I will sign up for the challenges. There are a truckload of choices so I just have to do some more exploring.
Bottom line - if you have any helpful suggestions, PM me - I know there are at least 4 of you that probably roll your eyes when you see a PM from me.
