The EVGA SC17 has to be one of the best gaming laptops to ever enter the market, in terms of design, specs, and most importantly, portability (I love how it looks professional, and doesn't scream "gamer").
However the timing of the release was just not very good considering the next generation of GPUs arriving on the market. I hope EVGA will make a new iteration of the laptop in the future with the new GPUs. Meanwhile, I have done extensive research on this laptop with the intent of buying it (when a newer version of it comes out with updated specs). Here are some of the things I noticed and things I would want from the next iteration of the SC17 :

1) Thunderbolt 3 port. This is absolutely essential. The SC17 is an expensive laptop rocking a 4k display with a GPU that is unable to support 4k gaming. While I have no intention of gaming in 4k, having Thunderbolt 3 is essential for future eGPU solutions especially with eGPU docks like the Razer Core becoming a trend. I personally own a bulky MSI GT70, and I am sick and tired of lugging around a 15 pound power brick and a 20 pound laptop that barely fits in my backpack. The SC17 is an ultrabook that packs a punch, and I am willing to pay the price that it costs right now for it, but I don't want to have to upgrade to another laptop 4-5 years down the line. I want the option to have an eGPU setup for some level of control in future-proofing. Along with Thunderbolt 3, it would be good to have support from eGPU docks like the Razer Core on the SC17.

2) The keyboard. Arrow keys need to be bigger, the same size as the normal keys. I use the arrow keys a lot for playing games, and having keys that are half size completely stops me from buying this laptop. The laptop could have everything I wanted, but if the arrow keys are like what it is on the SC17 right now, I wouldn't buy it. It's that important.

3) A more easily accessible/switchable battery. As far as I know you can't switch out the battery of the SC17 without fiddling with wires. I want to be able to switch out the battery like I would switch the battery from my phone. This is important because laptop batteries tend to lose their charge capacity very quickly, my GT70 used to last me at least 2 hours on battery when I first bought it, now it barely lasts 15 minutes.

4) A slot for more HDD space, if possible? 256GB + 1TB on the SC17 is already great, and this is more of a bonus, not a necessity. But being able to upgrade the laptop with additional storage would be great if there is any internal space left to do so.

If the above 4 things are met in the next iteration of the SC17 I will definitely be saving my money to buy one. With Nvidia pascal out now (with a mobile solution coming soon) and AMD's Vega coming very soon as well, the next iteration of the SC17 might be capable of 4k gaming.

I agree with #1, although I don't think the onboard GPU needs to be that powerful if the laptop has access to a powerful external GPU.  Just stick with the Iris Pro HD580 only, just don't raise the resolution unless you come home to game or go to work with an external GPU.

In fact, I'd suggest adding a #5: If I wanted to stream games from GRID directly to the laptop without owning a Sheild console, that would be nice; but doing so would add a non-x86 SoC running a proprietary OS dual-booted from the main OS.  Shouldn't be too complicated.

For Intel processors, 0.122 x TDP = Continuous Amps at 12v [source].

An eGPU solution is just for future proofing when the on board GPU gets dated. I would rather spend an extra 600$ more on a GTX 1080m so I can have a powerful on board GPU rather than having an integrated chip making eGPU a requirement. I'm not looking for a Razer Stealth here, and most people would agree with me. The selling point of EVGA's SC17 is its top of the line specs and unparalleled portability (on top of its professional looking design). I still want all those things, just with the option to upgrade later down the line (eGPU is the only way to upgrade, because all the parts are soldered on in order for the notebook to be so portable).

GTX980 is a lot cooler card than 1080... Looks like power consumption and temps are not so good of GTX1080 as we thought first.
In first moment I thought GTX1080 was ideal for laptops with higher resolution.
If someone want to buy laptop with GTX1080M better to wait some review first. In past ASUS had some gaming laptops where heat was problem.
