Has anyone had any positive results from upgrading to Win 10? Has anyone seen the stacked ram from sli and the benefits therein? I want to change to Win 10 but all I hear are the bad stories of Win 10 w sli and crashes any reason to upgrade? Looking for good news!

    I ran Windows 10 on my X79 Dark. I don't think it caused the issue, but it did start after I upgraded from 8.1 Pro to the full version of 10 Pro - I started having the board hang up when it loaded my discreet RAID card BIOS into memory, causing me to reboot the PC 7 or 8 times just to get it past POST. Put the RAID card in my standby X79 Extreme6 with everything from the X79 Dark and it boots fine, every time. I've since gone back to 8.1 and reinstalled everything in the X79 Dark, but still have the same hang ups.

    SLI currently reports incorrect VRAM usage - it LOOKS like it has VRAM stacking, but in reality it DOES NOT. VRAM stacking isn't around yet because there are ZERO DX12 games. DX12 is where VRAM stacking can happen, which is NOT possible in DX11 or earlier games.

    The 'stacked ram' is a DX 12 feature. Until we have DX 12 enabled games/applications, GPU memory is going to behave as it did in prior DX versions.
    Pretty much every game I've tried seems to have gained a couple of percent in performance and they seem smoother. I've had zero issue personally with games crashing in SLI and I'm also using a dedicated PhysX GPU too.

    SLI scaling with 3 cards is pretty bad in games, and can sometimes be worse than having just 2 cards - and if you are only running 1080P it is just about pointless unless you are just going for high benchmark scores. Here is a great example. Edit: BF4 might be a better example.

    Note: I have run SLI, Tri-SLI and Quad-SLI with different generations of Nvidia video cards, and I am using that experience above. It wasn't worth it for me to run anything more than SLI, especially at 1080P.

    I decided to finally take the plunge last week from 7 Pro to 10 Pro. So far I've seen next to no real OS breaking issues. SLI performance with 2-way 970's is rock solid, providing great performance. At least in Shadow Of Mordor & Battlefield 4. No crashes yet for me. Assuming you have a stable system, i cannot imagine to many scary issues. A friend of mine decided to upgrade to 10, and he has had nothing but issues. but like I've told him, I know that he has a failing stick of RAM, unstable overclock & plenty of malware to go around & he will have nothing but issues lol. I've now upgraded 3 of my computers to Windows 10, and again, no issues. 2 of the machines are running SLI configurations. ranging from a P67 build & a Z97 build.

    On the other side ,  there are tons of issues / forums filled with problems of people who switched to Win 10 .

    The problem is that there are so many hardware combinations to account for, - it's like playing the lottery.  You might get lucky & be problem free  or it might be a disaster or somewhere in between ??

    If you're comfortable being able to wipe a system and reinstall if you run into problems ,- give 10 a try.

    * ! whew ! * Now that's over ,- back to the thread

    I ran Win 10 for 1 week.... I just spent hours of my weekend putting WIN 7 back on.!!

    I liked most of everything but whatever the issue is between MS & NVIDIA.  The latest Nvidia 'driver' or win10 system  crashed 3x times in 1 week ,while I was doing pretty much nothing,  to the point of where it would not recover nor go above 640x480 resolution.
     Everytime this happened I had to reinstall the nvidia driver to get my screen/ monitor/ & resolutions back...

    I have had NO issues like this under 7 !  My system has been pretty rock solid for a long time....

     Win 10 is not ready for my 780 TI apparently --  ** &  FYI - I upgraded to 10 as required , then did a full wipe & reinstall fresh copy , then put in my Win 10 board drivers..etc....

    I had this problem with Vista and when the Windows 7 RC was available I jumped on it and it has been smooth sailing ever since. I spent a few days with Windows 10 and restoring my Windows 7 System Image has also restored some of the responsiveness. Whenever you do a fresh install of Windows 7 it places the files on a HDD for optimum performance. Apparently it uses this same procedure when restoring a System Image. Rather than doing a fresh install every year or so I'm going to just try restoring a System Image to see if I gain my performance back.
