I'm thinking of buying a GTX 960 with ACX 2.0, but I want to confirm if it will be compatible with a PCI-E 16x motherboard.

In theory yes as PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible. The better question is will your motherboard support Nvidia's Geforce 900 series Maxwell GPU. It is up to the motherboard and its bios to be up to date to support the newer generation of hardware. I would suggest making sure that the bios on your motherboard is fully up to date and you may want to contact the manufacturer to confirm if there are any support/compatibility issues with Nvidia's 900 series on your motherboard.

Welcome to the forum. The PCIe 8 pin, refers to the PCIe power connection from your power supply to the GPU not the PCIe slot, The GTX 960 is a PCIe 16x gen 3.0 GPU. As JamesL posted, it should be backwards compatible. If you gave us more specifics about your hardware, we could be more specific in our answers.

I have a Dell XPS 8700. Do you know if it is PCI-E 2.0 or 3.0? The latest BIOS version apparently does support the 900 series.

Okay, a relatively new Dell so, that increases the odds of it working.  Does your power supply have the required PCIe 8 pin for the GPU and, what is the wattage of the PSU?

    The PSU wattage is 460W.
I attached an image of what's connected to my current card from the power supply.

Two 6 pins? Does that mean I can use the adapter that comes with the card that converts two 6 pins to an 8 pin? Sorry, if I sound stupid, it's simply because I am.

Yes, you should be fine using the 8-pin adapter. The minimum power requirements are 400 watts.

Yes, that would work fine. Since you're already using a GTX 670, odd are good the GTX 960 will work.
